Presentation Prompter is a great tool… really helped get people comfortable when first time in front of a camera. Saved a couple of important shoots for me frankly.
So VisualHub works again / is available?
XiliSoft is quite good as well, recommend it. Never let me down on the PC side of things.
Hey Juho
Nah, VisualHub is still not available. I have not quite found a replacement yet. Although, this dude here is working on a replacement:
http://videomonkey.org/Video_Monkey/Blog/Blog.html
It’s not quite there yet since it does not have the flv conversion option, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.
Xilisoft works well enough for now…
Regards
Gideon
Okay. Thanks for the update. It’s kind of perplexing that something as important as this is left for the random hackers to deal with… or am I missing something here?
Xilisoft it is then, gotta go buy another copy for Mac I guess…
Hey Juho
It’s gone open source… so I guess the idea is that we’ll get a better result at the end of it?
To be honest, the whole thing with the founder of VisualHub just closing shop all of a sudden is a real mystery to everyone in the industry.
Many people are asking why he didn’t just leave it there for sale without support. Or even make it available for free download and build his list.
Beats me really…
All I know is that I feel very lucky that I got a copy when it was still available, and that I really hope that Video Monkey will be able to create something of similar value.
I’m holding my breath like everyone else…
Gideon
Yeah I guess the open sourcing of it is supposed to bring me rapid development… so have other people picked up on it? Seems strange that it’s so stagnant.
But yeah, human beings are weird and unfathomable sometimes.. maybe he was just going through a tough time and just wanted it out if his sight..
I guess I’ll need to enlist one of my Linux guru friends to take a look at it or something.
Great idea to get your Linux guru involved with this – the process has been painfully slow…
There are SOOOO many people who said they would pay good money for a solution – massive pain expressed by a large number of people… hmmm… nice opportunity me things!
Who’s gonna get there first! Perhaps a great marketer such as yourself?
Gideon
Okay so let me get this straight – the full source code has been open sourced quite some time ago but nobody has gone through the trouble to put it together, free or not… Hmm! I think you could be right, I smell an opportunity…
Shhhhhh! Don’t tell anybody!
Hey Gids, I’ll have to check this out. Being from you I KNOW its going to be awesome. See you tomorrow at yaro’s!
Hey West
Yeah check it out man, and let me know your thoughts ok?
Would love to hear your feedback!
Gideon
Hey Gids,
Awesome, awesome, awesome videos! Love everything that you have shared. It really helps and makes life so much easier and saves time researching.
I’ve got a few questions for you:
1. If you use Final Cut Express, can you convert the final video into the formats you mentioned without having to use VisualHub or Xilisoft? e.g. format such as .mp4 and .flv?
2. Which package do you recommend to purchase from Amazon S3 Server? Say I have 40 videos (around 40mbs each)
3. Also about iTunes and Blip (I kinda didn’t understand what you mean) and I know it’s suppose to be a secret. Maybe u can email me about this.. How does this work together?
4. Ustream – is this used for teleconferences and doing live shows with an audience?
Thanks and much appreciated!
Keep up the great videos.
Hey Tyrone
“Some” answers to your questions
1. If you use Final Cut Express, can you convert the final video into the formats you mentioned without having to use VisualHub or Xilisoft? e.g. format such as .mp4 and .flv?
I’m pretty sure you can export to mp4, but with my version of Final Cut Express, you definitely cannot export to flv. It’s a bit silly really. I think the Pro version can export to flv though, but that’s a very expensive program.
I normally just export to mov using the H.264 compression setting as my base format, and then convert it to anything else from there.
2. Which package do you recommend to purchase from Amazon S3 Server? Say I have 40 videos (around 40mbs each)
The cheapest one?
Actually I was not even aware they had more than one package. All I know is that their hosting for large files is dirt cheap and VERY reliable.
3. Also about iTunes and Blip (I kinda didn’t understand what you mean) and I know it’s suppose to be a secret. Maybe u can email me about this.. How does this work together?
That’s a tricky one to quickly explain here…
But perhaps I will create another video for this a bit later on? Most of it is inside the Become A Blogger Premium course in any case if you have access to that
4. Ustream – is this used for teleconferences and doing live shows with an audience?
Yes, you can use it for both those two things, among many other things. You should sign up for an account if you haven’t already, and just start playing around with it. It’s heaps of fun, and it’s a great way of building nice and strong relationships with your audience.
Thanks for all the great questions Tyrone!
Chat laters!
Gideon
Thanks Gids!
I’m playing around with all the tools you recommended.
Can’t wait to share with you some of the videos I create.
By the way, another cool service that can distribute videos is http://www.tubemogul.com. (You may have heard it before as well). I use this to distribute videos to a number of the popular video sites. Also, does all the converting for you too.
Talk soon!
Hey Tyrone
I’ve used TubeMogul quite a bit and it’s pretty cool. There’s also another cool services called http://www.HeySpread.com that does a similar thing. If I remember right, it costs a little bit of money to use, but it’s still another alternative to something like TrafficGeyser which has a monthly subscription fee.

Gideon
Hi Gideon,
Thanks for making these GREAT videos
I was thinking of using blip for my video because I was told that it will create an audio file for me.I’m a little concern about what you were talking about them taking you out if there’s any promotional material. Can you give some examples? I am thiniking of making a video and at the end of the video I’ll ask my viewer to go to my optin page to sign up for my free video (do you think this will be consider promotional?)
I tried looking for the video in bab (which you mentioned to Tyrone) but wasn’t which one.
Thanks!
Vincent
Hey Vincent
You are very welcome! Thanks for your great feedback
The last time I look (which was admittedly about a year ago), Blip.tv was very strict on any type of material that had an “ad” kind of feel to it. And they were specifically targeting “get rich quick” type of schemers or anything that looked remotely similar.
For our videos on http://www.becomeablogger.com we have about 10 minutes worth of instruction, and then at the end we tell people about our free report that they can sign up for. We’ve been on there for over a year now, and have not had any issues.
But I guess, just like with any of these video sharing services, they can decided to cancel your account for whatever reason without any notice. The best is to contact them directly and to ask them what is acceptable – or to just read their terms of service very carefully.
The bottom line is that you need to keep your videos backed up somewhere just in case your video sharing service decides to shut you down.
The video that I mentioned to Tyrone is inside me and Yaro’s Become A Blogger Premium course. It’s currently closed to the general public, but we will open doors soon again…
Talk soon!
Gideon
Thanks Gideon,
I’ll make sure I double check with blip or maybe use another service. (like Tyrone said)
Also I forgot to mention I’ve just finished bab premium course, that’s why I’m curious. (Thinking I missed something) Just let me know the vid #.
Thanks!
Vincent
Hey Gids,
Thanks for the link to HeySpread.com!
Also I did have a few issues with Blip.tv when I tried adding videos that were free and tutorials on how to outsource. They banned my account and I tried to get them to reinstate it but they said it was promotional in nature. So I just decided to go with Viddler.
Vincent: Best bet is to follow Gideon’s advice and ask them before doing it. Sometimes they have strange reasons and it’s how you approach it.
Hope it all works out for you.
Tyrone
Thanks for your input. I’ll definately double check with them.
Stay away from the dust storm and be safe !
Hi Gideon,
You mentioned that you’ve done lots of transcoding tests for video with Visual hub and Xilisoft.
Which other compression tools have you compared these with?
Have you tried Adobe’s Flash’s Video Exporter plugin for Quicktime and Other Adobe program such as FinalCutPro? http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/flvencoder/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=LiveDocs_NoParts&file=FLV_03.html
Finally, Can you share with us your “Base settings” for video compression eg: H.264, MP4, 500mbps 25fps?? and do you do your own transcoding to .flv or do you use a third party service?
Thanks
Andrew
PS: Great Vids BTW.
Hey Andrew
To be honest, I can’t even remember the names of all the compression tools I’ve used. I did this a while ago now…
Basically what I did, was to do a Google search for the tools I was looking for. I would then just go through the list I’ve found, install all the software, and then do a test for each one of them. I guess once I stumbled upon VisualHub and Xilisoft, I stopped testing, because they gave me exactly what I wanted.
I have not used Adobe’s Flash Video Exporter plugin yet, but will check it out now that you’ve told me about it – thanks!
And I also have not tried FinalCutPro’s export settings for flv – I’m only on Final Cut Express, and it does not have any flv export settings – FinalCutPro is a bit overkill for what I’m doing online.
For the settings that I use for my videos, have a look at these videos I created here:

For Video Format Conversion, I use AnyVideoConverter (free version). There is a pro version, but I don’t need it.
