Hi There! And Welcome to another video…
Inside this video, I’m gonna talk about my 7 top tips for growing your email list as a blogger.
Now, as you might know.. Growing your email list is the most important things you can do for growing your online business. If you don’t have an email list, your leaving a lot of money on the table.
So inside this video I’m gonna talk about 7 top tips from me that you can use for growing your email list. Some ver very cool tips.
Now hang on until the end of this video because there’s something really interesting and I will share to you where you can find a lot more cool tips for helping you make your blog a lot more profitable too.
So let’s get into it without further ado.
The first step is to increase the value of the thing that you give away as part of the thing that people signed up for on your newsletter. So this is really important, the more valuable you can make this the more people you gonna got to sign up for your newsletter. It’s just as simple as that. So offer them as a free report, or a video, or a audio file that people can download. Whatever it is make it as valuable as possible.
Number 2 is to have a newsletter signup box on your blog. Very important.. Have it at the top somewhere so that people can see it and it’s obvious so that they can signup in your newsletter. Absolutely critical, I used Aweber to help me do this. I grabbed the code that Aweber provides me, and then I put that code in the sidebar, on the sidebar widget on my blog. And that’s how I do it.
Number 3 is to have a lightbox hover on your blog. Now, this is one of those popup boxes that come up and asks you to enter your email address and name. Some people think it’s a little bit annoying, a little bit spammy but the truth is it can double your optin rate. Everytime that I’ve done this in any of my blogs that I’ve run, the optin rate is always doubled or atleast doubled. So I really recommend that you do it because it works. I don’t care about everyone else says.. wether it’s spammy or wether it looks ugly, it works! And if you can grow your email list twice as fast, you can become successful twice as fast. Cool!
Number 4 is to use something called the ultimate footer ad. This is a little script that you can install on your blog or website. Basically it allows or creates little footer popup on the bottom of your blog that asks people the same thing for their first name and email address. It’s a little bit lessen choice than a popup window from tip number 3 the lightbox hover popup.. That’s an alternative if you don’t like the pop up thing. But it’s not gonna be as effective, but still it will help you get more optins.
The next one up is to get signups from blog commentators. This is kind of new one to me and I’ll be implementing it very soon. And I will tell you soon why I haven’t yet. You can do this by using a plugn called Action Comments. The plugin is called Action comments, what it does basically is everytime someone leaves a comment on your blog, it sends them an email and you can decide what you wanna put inside this email. But basically you can ask people to signup for your newsletter. Very very cool.
So your heading the iron wall that’s hot basically. As people leave a comment you ask them to signup for your newsletter. How cool is that? So there already on your blog , and they still remember you and immediately you ask them to signup. Very cool.
Number 6 is to get signups from RSS readers. Now for this you will use plugin called Feed Footer. What it does basically is it allows you to add some text inside your RSS feed at the end of each post. And so inside there you can ask people to sign up for your newsletter. So you can just add text, add links. Very cool, so people click on it, your RSS followers click on it and go to your optin page.
Finally is to get signups from Facebook. And for this you need Facebook fanpage, you need an Aweber autoresponder account, and you’ll need a little facebook application called Facebok Static FBML. And basically use these things together to help you create an optin page on your facebook fanpage.
So these are lot of things here those are the 7 things..
- Increase the value for what your giving away
- Have a newsletter signup box on your sidebar, very visible
- Use the lightbox hover
- Use the ultimate footer ad
- Get signups from blog commentators
- Signups from RSS readers
- Signups from Facebook
Those are my top 7 tips, but actually they are not really my top tips. I actually got them from this right report right here from Jhon Chow. These 7 tips are really just from one chapter from this report. I just got it from Jhon today, I just downloaded it. As you can see it’s pretty chunky, it’s about 60 pages inside this report and this is just from one of the chapters. So it’s chuck full of really really great information helping you to grow your blog to make it more profitable.
Now you can get the copy of this. It’s totally free, remmeber the first point to make the value of your giving away really valuable. This is very very valuable, it can help you grow your blog and the money that you make from your blog just by implementing some of the strategies that Jhon talks about.
If you want to get access to this, look for the link below this video or inside the description area of this video either on the bottom or on the side and click on that.
It will take you to the page where you can download this for free. It’s 100% free and you can just go there and enter your name and email address to get access but it’s totally worth it.
So that’s it for me, those are the 7 tips. I hope you found them useful and I look forward to seeing you inside my next video

Hey Dave
Excellent stuff!
Blogging is heaps of fun… especially once you start getting into video blogging. I’ll be talking about this a lot more in the future videos coming

I’m dabbling with an email list for my fantasy art drawing tutorials and I’m finding it a great learning experience doing a mix of videos and web page articles, although I do need to finish my free ebook which has also been fun to write and draw along the way.
Thanks for these tips as they are explained very clear and there was also a great youtube tips video that you did previously that was a massive help, so thank you Gideon!
Wow, awsome free valuable content. Thanks Gideon.
Many people will really appreciate this including me.
I have really learnt a lot from you so far.
I am really looking forward to your video blogging!
Thanks a bundle

Hi Gideon
Thanks for the tips. I’ve resisted the lightbox hover from #3 (because they personally drive me crazy) but after seeing this video have decided to give them a try. Will be interesting to see the increase in opt-in rates.
Cheers
Graeme
Hey Graema
Good on ya for giving it a go!
My suggestion is to definitely test out the lightbox hover popup.
See how it goes.
And if it goes well, keep it.
If it does not perform well, just remove it
Gideon
Hi Gideon!
Thank you for these suggestions, and all of your material. I’m sure you’ve been told this 1,000 times, but your style is very compelling…you’re easy to listen to, you have a great deal of common sense, and you come across as approachable, which is wonderful. My opt-in box is my next priority…it can’t sit on the back burner any longer…thanks!
Hey Nancy
Thank you SO much for your kind comments!
So glad you’re making your optin box as the next priority – it will serve you VERY well in the years to come!
Gideon
Hey Gideon,
Nice Post. Today i was reading that Free ebook and i’m amazed with the work, john had did on that ebook.
Thanks

Hey Dev
Yeah there are some real GEMS in John’s book!
In fact, I will be implementing quite a lot of his suggestions over the next few days – powerful stuff!

Gideon
Hi Gideon,
Thank you for letting me have thses tips.
Your blog has a lot of value within it and has helped me to improve my knowledge considerably.
The newsleter opt-in box is a must, and you have just given me a nudge!
Many thanks,
Peter
Awesome! Just what I needed…I think I’ll give the pop-up thingie a try after all.
Thanks, Gideon!
I have resisted using things like lightboxes, popups, etc. since I find them annoying personally. But it seems that to make any headway in this world you have to be a bit pushy. It’s frustrating for me as it goes against my nature, but I need to have some income. It’s time, baby, it’s time!
Hey LoneWolf
I know the feeling.
Although, sometimes you have to do what works.
One thing to keep in mind is that you can definitely create your popup optin form in a tasteful way.
For example, set it up so that new people only see it once.
And also make your message compelling so that people will see the benefit of signing up.
And finally, always make sure you test it and see how it works for you. It does not always work for all markets, and that is why you need to test it.
All the best!
Gideon
Gideon,
Great video and some great tips as well.
I can imagine how much everyone can benefit by doing all of these things that you mentioned. If you got a x2 increase just from using a pop up, you could probably see a 5 to 10x increase by using all 7 of the methods.
Keep the great videos coming!
Brian
That’s the name of the game Brian – I see them all as incremental improvements that can all add up to a fairly significant improvement.
I actually talk about this in a lot more detail in a free report that I’ll be releasing soon… in fact, the very same report you can sign up for on my blog here
Talk soon!
Gideon
gr8 post..fantastic tips…action comments thing looks cool, new to me, will dig into it …thx a lot
Hi Gideon
Great idea to review the free content for a product launch.
Andrew
Hey Andrew
Great to see you on here again!
Some exciting stuff coming up!
What you been up to man?
Gideon
Aloha Gideon, enjoyed your video clip with your few drop of tips and will look into the free blog gift. Thanks for sharing! Lani
As always Gideon is easy to follow. He must be good as I followed his videos to set up my self hosted Wordpress blog. It is not converting so if anyone out there has any thoughts, it would be great as I am missing something.
Thnx
Your blog is not converting?
What do you mean exactly by “converting”?
Like, converting into traffic? Converting into optins? Converting into sales?
They are all very different things that you need different strategies for.
Gideon
Hi Gideon
Thanks for the Video – can’t wait to try the plugins – very useful tips!
Cheers
Wendy
Interesting tips, Gideon. I’m curious about the “action comment plugin”, I think it was called – the one that emails commenters. Does it only email commenters once? Hopefully not every time they comment. I wonder how many of those emails might end up in spam folders.
Also, with the lightbox hover or any of those pop ups, do you happen to know whether they are accessible to individuals who use screen readers? Sometimes marketing strategies aren’t really accessible, so I’m always looking for strategies that work and that are accessible.
Hey Glenda
I am about to try out the Action Comment Plugin – but I would say there would be a setting for it. John mentioned that you can integrate it with your Aweber account, so I would be surprised if you cannot change some of those settings.
About the lightbox hover… not sure what you mean by “screen readers”?
Gideon
Gideon, nice video, thanks for extracting those tips from JC’s guide, I hadn’t gotten around to looking into what he was offering yet.
You only look a tiny bit tired in the video
Hope everything is going well with the newest member of your family.
Lol – just a tiny bit tired? I dont think I’m really sleeping at the moment – feels like I’m launching HA!
Talk soon!
Gideon
[..YouTube..] nicely done video
Hello Gideon,
Thank you for the tips and great plug in ideas. As a new marketer with a new blog I have so much to learn and your blog has been both educational and inspirational to me.
I am an Aussie like you but I live in a remote Thai village about 20 miles from the Cambodian border – no one within coee that speaks English or Thai apart from my family. So I rely a lot on blogs like yours for ideas and shared experiences.
I have mentioned your site on my blog and referred readers to it because of its excellence.
Thanks again Gideon – you’re a champion!
Hey Peter
Thanks for mentioning my blog on your site – much appreciated!
And yes, feel free to interact here as much as you want – we all speak English here
Gideon
I just started growing my email list about a month ago. I have an eBook that I wrote that I’m giving away for free as an incentive for people to sign-up. This information is very helpful to me thank you!!
Great teaser for John’s ebook! Just got it and will go through it soon. Now, I’m going to get some of those plug-ins you’ve mentioned. Also thanks for stopping by my blog and checking out the review on the David Jenyn’s interview. Appreciate your comments. BTW, when are you going to put up your Gravatar?
Ah my Gravatar… one would think I should have that all figured out by now hehehe!
Uhm… where do I go to fix it up again?
Gideon
gravatar.com
, would love to see your face soon on the comments
Forgot to mentioned that it’s linked to your e-mail not to your blog, just so whichever e-mail you use, the image will come from that.
Hey Thu
Just updated my Gravatar!
Thanks for the great tip!
Now people can finally see what I really look like!
Gideon
[..YouTube..] Great tips Gideon! Perfect timing too for me
Hi Gideon..
First time here. Nice Blog. Look great.
About the John Chow’s brand new eBook, I already downloaded and finish it. As usual, he’s not dissapointed us. A lot of trick and tip. And a little motivation too.. I encourage all to get it.
Great tips Gideon! I just started my newsletter one week ago from today so these tips came in at the perfect time for me! I am going to implement the strategies immediately!!
I just searched for the action comments plugin… its $17???? I have never paid for a plugin yet… is this the same one you have? Please let me know how you like it and if its worth $17. That might not be much but since ALL plugins are free its quite a bit…
Hey Gideon!
Thank you for the video and tips! I personally am one of those people who think the popup/lightbox is a bit spammy looking. But I guess if it works it works right?
I know Aweber has a popup that well, pops up after you leave the page. I guess it’s all about testing.
Also I think it’s all about how you approach it. If you provide great material and people can sense your intentions, then they might not mind giving you their name and email.
Hey Gideon,
Nice video! I found them very useful and the three I need to implement are:
1. Action comments plugin
2. Popup box for Aweber on blog
3. Feed footer from RSS feeds
I also messaged John about his incorrect link in the book for his blog profit boot camp signup page so I thought you might want to know. I can see his going to be a doing a product launch soon…
By the way do you have a FaceBook Fanpage Gids?
Catch up soon!
Hey Tyrone
Cheers for that…
And yes – just creating my very own FaceBook Fan Page as we speak!
Will send it out as soon as it’s done
Gideon
Thanks Gids, very ingenius way of creating a lead in to someone else’s product. plus, awesome quality video too!!! keep up the fantastic work big fella
Thanks West!
I am so delighted that Yaro Starak sent me this post as mail, of my blogging experience has been terrible, I am hoping with these plugins and tips, I would be able to take my blogging career to the next level, thanks
Great video. Thanks for the tips, though.
The plugins you mentionned are definitely worth looking into. Is there a plugin in WordPress for the feed footer banner ???
