Hi! Welcome to another video… I’ve got something very special to invite you to inside this video. It’s a FREE Webinar that I’m having with someone very very special.
Before I tell you more about that though, let’s get into today’s video because the content of today’s video relates very much to this FREE Webinar that I like to invite you to.
This video is about personal branding and the importance of personal branding — what it can do for you, for your online business or offline business; it doesn’t really matter.
I’ve been doing personal branding now for quite sometime and I’ve been able to build up a following of between 50 and 60 thousand people online. Not all of it has been through my personal brand but a big chunk of it has been.
It’s been tremendous! I’ve been able to build up very very successful business based on my personal brand. I like to share with you inside this video some of the benefits of building up your personal brand. And also some drawbacks because it’s not all a bed of roses. But I also want to talk about how to overcome some of those drawbacks.
Personal brand; what is it? What is it exactly?
In my case it’s a way that I’ve been able to brand myself and to use that as a leverage for promoting my business and what I do online.
For example I’ve setup a website at my blog at GideonShalwick.com and that’s considered personal branding as far as you can go.That’s where I’ve been branding myself. I’ve been using that as a place to voice my opinion about various kind of things.
In fact that’s where this video is going to go once I’ve got it edited. So you’re watching this probably from my blog at GideonShalwick.com or from my YouTube channel at YouTube.com/GideonShalwick, once again a personal branding exercise.
As I said before it’s been tremendous! It’s been really a key thing to help me distinguish myself from other people, other businesses, other brands and it has helped me to become very very successful online.
For example, when you have your own personal brand, you can really do magic. Just think about this for a second: Why do people want to do business with you? Or who do people like doing business with?
I’m sure you’ll get to the answer eventually if you think about it long enough. People want to do business with other people that they like, know and trust. I don’t know where I saw that or or learned that or read that from, but people like to do business with other people they like, know and trust… Maybe it was Ziggler? I don’t know; maybe you know, you can leave a comment.
When you setup a personal brand that’s exactly what you’re setting yourself up to achieve. Just think about it… If someone wants to buy a product, through whom will they likely buy – someone that they know and trust, or buy it through an unknown brand or business or corporate thing that’s very impersonal?
My guess is that nine times out of ten go for the person that they know, like and trust. When you setup your own personal brand that’s the kind of effect that you can build.
I really attribute a lot of my success because of the personal brand I am able to build; because when people get in touch with me they feel like they know and trust me. And because of the way that I present myself and being able to connect with me. I don’t have a big corporate brand; people can connect directly with me and my brand. There’s a lot of value in that.
Whenever I want to promote something or get my audience (for example, you) to do a certain type of action, I get very very high conversion rates. I truly believe it is because of the strong bond I’ve been able to build with my followers.
Obviously, all these are great benefits about having your own personal brand. You can build a significant following with a personal brand but there are also some drawbacks. Having a personal brand is not the be-all-and-end-all. It’s a great way of doing it but there are some drawbacks.
One major drawback of having a personal brand is that you can’t sell it… Maybe you can, but it’s a lot more challenging. That’s something you want to think about specially for the long term.

But you can’t sell it, it’s very difficult. I won’t be able to sell GideonShalwick.com. Not unless I do some special things.
Actually I had a really good chat with one of my friends where I asked him ,”What if I want to sell this, how do I do that?” And he talked about transitioning your personal brand to another brand. So there is that way out — you can build up your own brand, get a significant following and then transfer your brand to a new brand. Then sell that brand.
That’s one thing you can do. The other thing that I’ve done very successfully is to spin off other brands based on my own personal brand.
For example, recently I launched Rapid Video Blogging and that was a very very successful launch, in fact my most successful ever. That is a new brand that I’ve used leveraging off from my own personal brand.
But that’s now its own brand in itself and that’s something that does become saleable specially if I structure it in a right way. Building your own personal brand is great but you got to keep in mind that you may not able to sell it. But then again you don’t want to sell your own personal brand. Why would you want to sell your own personal brand?
Let’s look at some examples of people who have done extremely well.
Oprah Winfrey, that’s probably the most prominent personal branding exercises I’ve ever seen. Certainly she wouldn’t want to sell that. Why would she want to sell something like the Oprah Winfrey brand. She probably couldn’t even if she wanted to. But it’s an extremely valuable brand and it serves her extremely well, and has been years and years, and it will for years and years to come.
Another really good example is that of Tony Robbins who has setup an amazing personal brand around the personal development industry. That’s another really good example of setting up a a personal brand and it’s serving you really well.
In Tony’s case, he’s been able to get amazing leverage by teaching others to replicate his message, to become little Tony Robbins’. And they go into the courses for Tony. That’s where he found his leverage; it’s not always Tony teaching.
With Oprah, she’s been able to find leverage through mass media, being able to do these talk shows and having this one to many conversation. So there is leverage to be found, it’s not always something that you want to sell specially if it’s serving you really well.
Amazing benefits!… There are some drawbacks but you can overcome these drawbacks of the personal brand as well.
