Content Marketing: An Awakening Giant?

Subscribe ->

I couldn’t help myself today – I was looking at these new graphs and it just hit me how BIG (potentially) this content marketing trend could really be.

What I did, was look at how the “content marketing” curve in Google Trends compares to a competing phrase “SEO”.

And the image was rather staggering.

To me, it clearly points toward a MASSIVE trend in content marketing about to kick off (finally after so many years). And that we are really only at the beginning of this mammoth giant thingee.

Feel free to disagree with me inside the comments area. I’m not a magician with a crystal ball… just another enthusiast trying to see what’s about to take off next.

  1. I’ve joined the wave and built my first YouTube channel & video blog following your Rapid Video Blogging download. Did a 5 tip video & blog post on recording in a noisy environment. (I have 7 young children, so I know!)

Just wondering if you could give a bit of an intro to what Content Marketing is, and what Google Panda is. As a complete newbie, I didn’t know these terms at all.

I couldn’t help myself… I wanted to dig a little deeper into whether this
latest resurgence (last 2 years worth) of content marketing is for real.
Today’s video looks at a slightly different angle… and if it all holds
true. there will be some staggering consequences coming in the next few
    years…

Hi Gideon! Thanks for a great video. I’m a big fan since two years. In your
course you talk about offering a free report or course in order to build an
email list. I can see this was effective around 2009. Do you still think
this is a good way for future sales though email marketing or would you
rather sell a product directly through YouTube Video Marketing? I have seen
a trend to go directly to selling products directly without any free
material. I am selling online singing courses and would love to hear your
    thought on this.

Hey +Peter Wickström - great to see you hanging around as a long time subscriber!

      My answer:

The money is still in the list AND the RELATIONSHIP you have with your list.

Nowadays, "list" can really mean any place where you are building a following: FB likes, Twitter followers, YouTube subscribers etc. By far STILL the most effective for ROI is email.

Here's an interesting article about that: http://www.linkedin.com/today/post/article/20140218163539-2434720-email-still-rocks-social-surprisingly-stinks

So, in summary – YES free reports (or resources) in exchange for an email address STILL works really well. But nowadays it's very important to compliment that with a social media strategy too.

But 80/20 for me is certainly email.

I might just create a little video about this to explain it some more – thanks for the great question!

Here's a list of ideas I'd like you to create a video on +Gideon Shalwick

+ I would love to hear your process for curating content.

This is the big one for me because I am at that point where I'm ready to start my thing, but have a hard time curating original content(spam free) or anything im proud to share.

And even though I have experience online I have yet to start my own thing.

Maybe what I'd like is really a crash course in creating and publishing that first piece?.?.

+What habits do you have when evaluating content or services to promote?

+What/who influenced you to start video logging and what inspired you to create a business around it?

+Could we get an update about your office/studio that you moved into last year. Gear, setup, employees?

+Have you generated any business from the Co-OP?

There’s a ton of potential for content marketing… about content marketing
    haha

Even then, it’s really the core of all marketing online. Even paid
marketing should link to some form of content. Great video, and I agree
there is a ton of potential!

Definitely will be sharing this on G+ and my blog http://www.daleyneguay.com

Gideon, I had to look up the definitions of SEO and Content marketing (my
marketing degree is from 1981! Vintage, sorry!) but I do agree with you
that giving good content (especially free content) is more important than
trying to be at the top of the Google page! [ g+ was invented for me,
because I check my name constantly to see what shows up. ] I’m
integratingTumblr, Twitter, facebook and blogger, too with everything I’ve
done on YouTube. One tip that helped me is that content needs to be
    “killer” and not just “filler.”

The analogies you describe of how events in marketing progress was
fascinating. The hockey stick analogy or the tipping point one correspond
to the law of attraction. There is a momentum that gathers steam and then
    its unstoppable.

    • Gideon Shalwick

I have never thought about how this relates to the law of attraction +Graham Gell! Thank you for the insight!
