Hi Gideon,
I`ve been watching your videos for some months now & I think you really come over so well on the small screen!! I have put some videos on my blog but I feel so self-conscious about it that I feel that I must come over as a complete ****** !
I know that you highly recommend video but don`t you also feel that you have to be realistic & accept the fact that some people come over far better than others ?

Hey Nick

I have just watched your video on your blog, and I dont think you have anything to worry about.

Most people feel funny when they watch themselves back on video. And I think it’s because of two main reasons:

1. People are not used to seeing the real image of themselves – they are used to seeing a mirror image of themselves inside the mirror every day.
2. People are not used to hearing their own voice when it gets played back to them – people are used to hearing their own voice coming right from inside their heads. So you own voice sounds different to yourself than it sounds to everyone else. So, when you hear a recording of it, it sounds “different” to you.

Now, because of these two things, I believe that the sub-conscious finds it hard to deal with at first.

But as you watch yourself and listen to yourself more and more, the more used to it you become, and after a while it all just seems very normal… and even fun!

So, my suggestion is to just keep on practicing, and keep on watching yourself and learning from the experience each time. It DOES get better – trust me :)

Hi Gideon,

I used to do TouTube marketing 2 years ago and then let it slide – recently went and had a look at my old account and saw that one video has had over 280,000 views! You can be sure I’ve optimized that one with a clickable link and an ‘annotation’ :-)

Reply

13 Gideon Shalwick July 29, 2010 at 12:03 am

Hey Clive

I’ve had similar experiences – so glad you went back and optimized your video with an annotation.

I hope you also added a link to your site in the description area? That can help greatly with extra traffic to your site.

what do you think of using tubemogul or traffic geyser to submit videos to many other video sharing sites? is that considered spamming, or is it a legitimate way to get your videos out there?

Reply

15 Gideon Shalwick July 29, 2010 at 2:00 pm

I don’t use any of those two services. They just seem a bit too spammy to me.

I think they can be useful especially if you create great quality videos.

But a lot of people are just using those services to spam their sales and marketing videos. And that does not help anyone in my view.

The bottomline is that you need to test it. If it works for you, and helps you get more real views and real subscribers, then I say go for it. But you can only find this out through testing it.

I’m desperate for the new report, watched all your videos and I suspect I’ll be one of the first in the queue with the credit card when you launch your next product, in short, I get it.

One thing concerns me though.

I can see how you create massive levels of traffic for topics like internet marketing and online video because by their very nature you’re pitching to the communities who practically live on these sites but I’m less convinced of the traffic levels that are attainable for corporate type niches.

For example, I run the world’s most popular internet site covering data quality (very niche!) but I just can’t envisage massive volumes of our mostly corporate community hanging out on YouTube.

I have all the video production facilities set up and countless content ideas to get going but I still have a nagging doubt if this will work for my niche. With so many pulls on my time it’s still a big gamble.

Is there a simple approach to evaluate whether your niche will work on YouTube?

Reply

18 Gideon Shalwick July 29, 2010 at 2:02 pm

Hey Dylan

If they’re not on YouTube yet, chances are that they will be very soon in the near future.

For example, if they are already to be found on Google, but not on YouTube, it’s just a matter of time until they get on YouTube as well.

That’s my take on it.

In saying that though, some topics do lend itself better to video than others. But if you’re creative about it, I think you should be able to figure out how to garner to masses of traffic currently at YouTube, even with your niche.

It’s been a long time since i’ve been watching your videos and learning a lot from video blogging.
I have my own blog since november 2009 but it hasn’t been until june 2010 that i really put all of my efforts into my blog, and now i’m seeing results like good traffic and feedback.

Now thanks to you, soon i’ll be uploading videos to youtube to show them in my blog to really show my users all of my knowledge.

And also, i follow your recommendation of buying a video camera, right now i have the kodak zi8 and it’s awesome.

I’ll be waiting your report to keep learning about video blogging. And by the way, my blog is in spanish… because i live in Chile, South-America. So know that you’re helping out somebody pretty far from your location!

Looking forward to reading the report because (totally my mistake) one of my sites has been receiving totally rubbish visits since it was created a year ago and becuase I didn’t set up Google Analytics to find out what traffic it was getting I was shocked to discover how low the visitor numbers were when I finally got that organised. I’m stoked about next Tuesday. You come across as very genuine. The video post of your report was the first time for me to see your work. It grabbed me right away. So much so that when the report was not available right away I felt a sense of loss. I waited with immense anticipation for the next communication, you hooked me. I’ve been studying marketing on and off line for many years now but what your video did was attach me to you. As you said in this video I feel a connection to you. Can’t wait to get the report and start making my presence on You Tube.
Thanks,

Ps I think it’s powerful the all white background in this video, reminds me of a scene in the movie “Bruce Almighty” with Jim Carey and Morgan Freeman

Hey Gideon,

Just wanted to drop by and say hi and thanks for the quality information and products you create.

Youtube is a huge part of my online business (online singing lessons) and I am approaching my first year anniversary since I launched my business (using Become a Blogger Premium).

I have followed your’s and Yaro’s advice regarding generating traffic, enticing subscribers with a very high quality valuable free product (an 8 week video course all filmed with green screen, proper lighting, mics ect) and commenting on other blogs and forums. I also have 30 videos up on youtube and am focusing on article marketing as taught by Adam Short at the moment.

My results so far?????

87,000 views for my youtube videos (average 400 per day)
626 youtube subscribers and growing
856 email subscribers to my newsletter (averaging 30 per week atm)
Top 20 google page rankings for most of my keywords
10% conversion rate traffic – subscribers

I am just about to lauch a paid membership site which will be offered to subscribers at the conclusion of the 8 week course which I am confident will sell very well.

I’d say the majority of my traffic/subscribers is coming from youtube at the moment and I’m still only a small fish in the niche.

I really owe a lot to you and Yaro so thank you.

Ian

P.s I’m an Aussie too :)

And yes, YouTube has been really good to me too.

With our magic channel, we now have nearly 3 million views, and we’re getting over 100 email leads a day now.

It really is one of the best, if not THE best ways to get tons of traffic and subscribers.

Congratulations and well done again!

I liked the idea of having the transcript appearing below your video. How did you do that? It made a lot more sense to follow through! :)

Yes, traffic is one crucial thing to be considered when it comes to marketing your business online and even offline, without people coming through your retail business for example, there’s something missing in it and probably it’s the marketing efforts like adding Web 2.0 and giving away free stuffs.

Hi Gideon. I have gobbled up stacks of your fabulous content and am eagerly awaiting the latest gem next week. We’ve had a few aborted attempts to make decent video for my site and youtube – simply a bumpy learning curve – old SD equipment and frustrating editing software that froze at critical moments hasn’t helped. But we’re learning and have got new gear. The overlay audio is our latest challenge so I am keen to know what brand mic you recommend and use. I got an external behringer mic to plug into my computer but am not too pleased with a low background rumble that lingers. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any tips, or maybe they’ll be in your Report next week?
Thank you for your content. Sharing knowledge and experience like you do reflects the confident generosity you exude in your clips.
