This means that as a YouTuber, you can now earn yourself the title of “Partner” and can monetize all your videos through Google Adsense… So cool, right?
But wait… there’s more information you need to know about this recent development. Why did YouTube do this? And what’s in it for you?

So I’m going to talk about that a little bit and the announcement from YouTube. I’m going to talk about how you can activate your account to become a YouTube Partner today. And I’m going to talk about some controversy about this announcement. So keep watching. There’s some interesting stuff coming up.
Okay, so there’s some big news going around the internet. YouTube has just announced, a couple of days ago or so, that everybody can now become a YouTube Partner, given that you’ve got some videos on your YouTube channel of course.
This is a new move by YouTube, I think, to help their revenue increase a little bit. Perhaps they have a few other reasons as well, but as you’ll see, soon you’ll understand why I’m making that statement.
But as a YouTuber you can now become a Partner, which gives you some benefits. Not all benefits that existing (old) partners have, but nonetheless, some benefits.
Let’s have a look at that.
First of all, let’s have a look at how you can create or activate your own partner program. All you’ve got to do is basically go to your YouTube channel into the settings area. (I’ll show you on the screen.) Go and activate you account; there’s just one button you’ve got to click and then you activate it.
Of course you’ve got to have videos inside your YouTube channel to make that possible. Once you’ve done that, you could just basically link your Adsense Account, if you have one, with your YouTube channel. If you don’t have one, just go ahead and create one. Then link that to your YouTube channel.
It’s really as simple as that. And that will then allow you to monetize any of your videos on your channel to get you a bit of an extra income stream. By the way, if you’re not getting a ton of views, you’re not really going to get a lot of money from this but hey, a bit of extra passive income – you wouldn’t say no to that. The good news is YouTube wants to pay you for hosting your videos on their servers. Pretty good deal, I reckon.
In any case, I reckon, it’s worth doing whether you think it’s a great thing or not. I think it’s worth becoming a partner so that you can monetize your videos. For the other occasion that one of your videos might go viral and you can get paid for having ads on those videos.
Now, there’s some controversy here; Pros and Cons.
Obviously, the pros for this is that everyone now is able to monetize their videos on YouTube, which is pretty cool!
Also, you can tell your friends that you’re a YouTube Partner now so it can make you feel good about your channel and about yourself.
I am not sure if there are many other pros just yet for becoming a YouTube Partner in this way.
Now the cons is that you can’t brand your channel just yet. Like the existing “old school” YouTube Partners can do. That’s a bit of a problem but perhaps this is just something that they’ll bring in for new partners in the future.
I am talking about being able to have like a banner on top of your channel that’s clickable and people can go to your website; that’s very cool. Also, be able to have your own banners on your channel and a bunch of other little things like that, that allows you to brand your channel a lot better. But you can’t do that just yet.
The other thing is that you can’t upload your own unique thumbnails just yet. Apparently, that’s in the works as well if you go to YouTube’s page or to the links below this video on the description area. But you can’t upload your own unique thumbnails yet, which is a big request. But that’s coming apparently; very soon. So that’s cool!
I’m not sure of this much else. In terms of much other benefits of becoming a partner other than really monetizing and adding to the YouTube (Google) Adsense program.
Who really benefits? That’s really the question that I want to ask here. For all these millions of people, perhaps over a billion potential subscribers can now be partners and monetize all their videos. What are the benefits here? Let’s just look at it.
There’s obviously benefits for you. As a YouTuber, you can become a partner and monetize your videos and maybe get some money coming in from that. But if you’re not getting a lot of views, I’m not really sure. It might just be a few dollars a month if that. If you’re getting a lot of views, you should have been a partner by now, in any case and so it wouldn’t make a difference.
What about YouTube? Perhaps YouTube is benefitting a lot from this. Imagine being able to monetize all videos now and giving people the choice to monetize all their videos. I’m not sure about this one but maybe they were able to do that in any case, so who knows what is the benefit there for YouTube.
And then the other question asked is – What is the benefit to advertisers? Obviously maybe they get some more exposure now, more opportunities to be seen. Who knows? I’m not quite sure how all those algorithms work with the ads being shown, etc.

This is a potentially really big thing for you as a YouTuber. In the past, you weren’t able to become a partner but now you can. And with the things that they have planned by the looks of it, perhaps they’ll bring up the status of the new partners to the existing partners so that you can also brand your channel and get all the other benefits.

[..YouTube..] Yup – this raises a very important point. Recently YouTube (and Google) has become A LOT more serious about pirating content and copyright etc. So yes, it’s very important that the videos you monetize are 100% your own content.

“Important note: If your video is not approved for revenue sharing, it may be removed from YouTube.”
I presume this will eliminate spammy videos (which would be ineffective for adsense monetization anyway).

[..YouTube..] I think it is great that partnership has been extended to all content creators. If a person has taken the time to create content to share with others, I see no problem giving them an opportunity to earn revenue. It is a great incentive for them to continue to make more content. As you know, creating content can become addictive and can result in better content as the content creators finds their groove. I don’t see how it will hurt anyone.

[..YouTube..] The big winners from this change will be the mammoth Google Inc.. Every time you click on an ad, Google charges advertisers on a bided Pay Per Click basis. A small portion of that take (they won’t disclose how little) Google gives to it’s Adsense partners. Being an Adsense Partner is like getting the odd crumbs from the Google banquet table. Of course crumbs are better than nothing

Great that people now have the option to monetize if they want. Me personally I prefer to keep my videos ad free so won;t be taking youtube up on their offer.

This is a very disappointing development in my opinion. YouTube was a great original idea, but like every great idea that becomes focused on revenue and loses sight of its origins (eBay, anyone?), they’re just crapping all over themselves now.

[..YouTube..] I have been a partner for a year now and it is not that easy to upload videos you can monetize, the copyright issue gets in them even when you are not using copyrighted material. I have a video with only iLife music and I got a copyright strike, I claimed I had the right to use the copyright free material but the strike was not lifted by the company acussing me. And YouTube does nothing, the partner support just ignored my enquiry and sent me a lot of links that didn’t help the way I was told.

Its like when Cable TV first came out there was hardly any commercials now they are like the big 3 network stations with 3 to 4 minutes of ads… But there is value as long as YouTube is free to get your message past on… Thanks for the info

[..YouTube..] Gideon, right now I’m looking at this page, where there’s an ad over in the right column above the “related videos”. However, there’s also an ad plastered into the video player. That’s the one that I find intrusive and offensive. YouTube doesn’t have to incorporate the ads into the video player to monetize.
[..YouTube..] its not a partnership, but just letting them put ads on your website. The official youtube partnership is the true one where you get the banner and such.

Amazing how excited one can get about a thumbnail upload button
[..YouTube..] Do you add plenty of text related to your video inside your description area? Also are you optimizing your title and tags? Those are very important. Google “how to get more views on youtube” and my video will show up on the first page that shows you how to optimize that.

[..YouTube..] I have Monetized my Youtube account tonight and there was no problems at that, but I have noticed it hasn’t asked my to link to an Adsense account or create an Adsense account.
what happens next regarding Adsense
[..YouTube..] Oh, yes, iLife music it is royalty free, it says so in the Apple terms of use, you can use it for work you are commissioned to do and so, but some nasty people are using some of the iLifeTunes, adding a bit of remix at the beginning and at the end of it, letting the main part of the tune remaining as it is in iLife, and copyrighting it. Then, when you use that original iLife tune, the same one they used and remixed and copyrighted, they claim it is their music and YT believes then, not you.
[..YouTube..] I read they are working on having the other features “unlocked” as your channel grows. Just like the longer upload ability that you get after a while. The banners and custom thumbnails and content network advertising would be future account upgrades I would guess.

I go up to the YouTube search bar and begin to type my keywords in and use the ones that YouTube automatically finishes. I’ve heard that too many tags can look bag? I’ve been using 3-5 tags or phrases separated by commas. How many do you use usually? I really don’t think that it has to do with my tags, titles and descriptions though… they all have a ton of guitar stuff in them. Any other thoughts? Thanks!

Hi Orlaquirke- I’ve used 3 resources for my audio. My intro audio is from shockwave-sound and my outro audio is from Garage Band (Mac software). I have also downloaded but have not yet used audio from DigitalJuice. Once you purchase the music, the license allows you to reuse their music on DVDs and websites without royalties. -Ron

My concern about becoming a partner is that when I embed video to my site (the studio kitchen com) I don’t want ads running ahead of my video. I don’t mind if they run on my Youtube channel but not where they are embedded.

the most important is the ability to select a good thumbnail so people can watch, otherwise we are all stagnating and not moving forward. Do you know there is a feature ‘store’ that is now showing on one of my channels.. i could not get to put anything there to sell.

We are trying to get a partnership, I think we can since are videos are monotized (but we are not getting paid) so we need to get an Adsence account. Once we have the Adsence account how will the money be coming in exactly? That part confuses us.

Fuck monetization, I’ve had that since May. Just recently my channel had a small explosion of subscribers and views so I applied last night for partnership. I got excited the next day (today) when I received an email that I had been accepted! Now I realize I didn’t get anything I actually wanted from this. Damn it YouTube!

I only see youtube being the ONLY people benefiting from this. On this standard I’m a youtube ” partner ” but because I’m not a GREEDY BASTARD I don’t monetize my videos. I have no interest in it.
