How I Make Money With Video Blogging – Video Interview

A few day’s I once again got asked to do a text based interview. And if you’ve been following my blog for a while now, you’ll know what I think about text based interviews 😉

So, in the spirit of being a video freak, instead of returning some boring text answers, I simply created a quick video so that it looked like I was getting interviewed.

To see how I create videos like this, make sure you watch my easy video content video I did a few weeks ago.

  1. Hi Gideon,

Love the way you do these videos (hence the link to you on my post about promoting yourself as a Graduate Designer :) ) – if you have any tips on how to come across so naturally I would love to hear them. I have only tried screen casting at the moment but find I tend to rush what I want to say. I look forward to hearing more about the rapid video course.

    Thanks Tara

PS. Have you and Yaro ever thought of doing an offer to buy both of your blogging courses at once (or combining them) – I like the sound of the video element of BAB premium but the monetisation strategies etc from Blog Mastermind.

    • Gideon Shalwick

      Hey Tara

      Thanks for your nice comments!

I think the best way to come across natural is simply to practice lots!

That sounds a bit counter intuitive really… like how is it possible to practice how to be natural!? But what I mean is that, the more videos you create, the more used to yourself in front of the camera you will become, and hence the more natural you will come across.

And about BAB + BMM – check this out:

      All the best!

  2. Hi Gideon, there you are talking to your fridge again :-) Kidding aside I really like this ‘interview’ format and will be instigating it myself. I mentioned in another post of yours that if your interviewer created an .mp3 audio of the questions you could edit that into the final video, I’ll try that and let you know how it goes.

    • Gideon Shalwick

Hey Clive – LOL! Yeah I was talking to the fridge again – shhhh, don’t tell anyone hehehe!

Yes please, if you can set up that trial with the mp3 and report back here that would be awesome – I’m sure everyone else would love to see it as well!

  3. Hi Gideon,
I guess I should have known you wouldn’t have missed that one 😉
Mmmm… very tempted but waiting to see what the rapid video course is all about first.

  4. Hey Gideon,

I personally prefer video interview over text interview and you obviously took it to the next level — awesome! :-)

Did you film this with a Flip Mino HD?

    • Gideon Shalwick

      Hey Desmond

Not sure if I mentioned this before, but I pretty much hate text on the internet – whereas online video, I’m pretty much addicted to lol!

This time round it was not my Flip Ultra HD. Instead, I used my latest camera – Canon T2i 55D (AKA Rebel in the USA). As you can see, it records kick ass quality video!

      Talk soon!

  5. Denise

    Hi Gideon

Another great video. Looking forward to your new products. I also love the “fridge” interview so I am getting fired up for that one myself.

Also like the subtle changes on your blog by Chris Sulla must check him out.

    • Gideon Shalwick

      Hey Denise

Chris is my full time designer – he ROCKS!

Thanks for your nice comments again!

And DO let me know once you’ve done your “fridge” video interview hehehe – I’d LOVE to see it!

      Talk soon!

  6. Dang it.

This was such a simple concept, but one that you kinda just don’t think of doing. Will start using this in some of my niches.

Easy way to bring personality/trust/rapport into an interview.

    • Gideon Shalwick

  7. very inspiring Gideon, always great tips. I’m on the drawing board for a new video website/blog project. I’m in the design process now and you always show up in my inbox at the right time. I’ll be in touch as I go forward. Thanks again.

  8. Hi Gideon,

I have no willing family members (or pets) that I can teach to; they all think that I am a little odd spending so much time on IM on my PC!

Video marketing is a subject that I intend to develop and your videos are a great help.

Thanks for sharing so much info with us. I have just written a post on my blog about the value of your content. I hope you are OK with it.

    Thanks again.

    • Gideon Shalwick

      Hey Peter

      Already read it!

      Great post… and THANKS!

Yeah, video marketing ROCKS! Especially when it’s online :)

I’ll be revealing MUCH more over the next few weeks!

  9. Your videos are always helpful Gideon.:) I really would like to try this some time.:)

You and Yaro were just inspiration to newbies like me.:) More power to both of you dude!!!

  10. Great concept! I’m new to blogging and learning all I possibly can in the process. Really working on getting my blog up and running soon. I appreciate all of the great advice and I’m really looking forward to online video marketing. It really does seem like a great way to get started as opposed to using text. Of course starting out, I would need to invest in the best equipment and not so technically challenging equipment.

Any suggestions for new bloggers? I see that you’ve made mention of the FlipUltra HD. Does that pretty much do the trick especially for getting started.

    Denise Benson

    • Gideon Shalwick

      Hey Denise

Yes, Flip Ultra HD is an amazing little camera for the price you pay. Other options are also the Kodak Zi8 and also the Creative Vado. They are all very similar, each with their own benefits.

Inside my Rapid Video Blogging report, that I’ll be releasing very soon now, I explain exactly the solution that I recommend – the best part is that it wont cost you an arm and a leg, and it helps you make your videos look superb!

      Coming soon!

      Gideon Shalwick

  11. As always, great post. I can’t wait to try out this technique. I will let you all know how it goes.

  12. Jim

Gideon …. many thanks for the good info and insights on video blogging. I will have to try this with my blog and see how this helps.

    Thanks again,

  13. First, I want to tell you and Yaro that I love your new hair styles! You two are becoming GQ!

This has put a bee in my bonnet on how to do video media coaching on my blog. Thinking. Going right away to your report.

I have been working with individuals on Skype and Oovoo but although the business is growing, it is one person at a time.

Waiting for inspiration and possibly a suggestion from you.

From one of your greatest fans!

    • Gideon Shalwick

      Hey Corinne

Ok wow, in that case, you are going to LOVE my Rapid Video Blogging report :)

Inside I show the exact same “formula” I used for getting massive exposure using video blogging – coming real soon now :)

  14. FABULOUS idea! I’ve never seen anyone do this before. You’re a genius! I have a Canon Rebel and will have to give this a try. (Got the Mino, which I’m addicted to, but versatility is good!).

    • Gideon Shalwick

      Hey Lain

      I’m a genius?

Wow… that actually means a lot to me! Thanks! :) :) :) (you get 3 smiley faces hehehe).

The Canon Rebel is just amazing – even though the files are pretty big, the end result is just awesome – as you can see.

      Talk soon!

  15. Gideon, video finally clicked for me, right here, right now. I haven’t really cared for even watching video in the past. But what you did here is something I could feel comfortable doing.

    • Gideon Shalwick

Oh for sure Dave – I think it’s one of the biggest trends happening right now. And it’s a great time to hop onto it and take advantage of it.

      You won’t regret it!

  16. Another great video, thank you for sharing.

  17. Thanks for your video on blogging.
I just started (text) blogging a couple of months ago as a hobby on fitness but after reading all your info perhaps I can make some sort of income from it.. at least to support the costs of my blog (haha).
I see you are in Brisbane too.. might see you some time if you hold face to face courses? anyhow I shall follow

    • Gideon Shalwick

Sure thing – I’m definitely planning on doing some more public speaking. And Brisbane is likely to be the starting point!

Looking forward to meet you there!

  18. Thanks once again for more great contents, concepts and strategies!
    Very interesting.
    All the best

  19. Kelli

Loved the video! What is the music you are using in the background?

  20. Hello Gideon.

I liked your interview. I just opened 2 blogs and I’m going to use your advices to put videos in my blogs.

    Thank you for your help.

    • Gideon Shalwick

      Hey Ramon

Great stuff – I have just read your post – thanks for the nice words!

Video blogging is great fun – I highly recommend it!

      • Wow you’re fast! lol

By the way, I put a post about you in my new blog. Check it out, and tell me if I talk too bad or too good about you 😉

        • Gideon Shalwick

          I don’t muck around :)

  21. Good. Because if you do, you’re over

  22. [..YouTube..] Inspiring video and thank you, Gideon; for providing as well as the sharing value.

  23. Gideon, about you become a better teacher/enteprenuer answer.. That’s remaind me a quote – ‘one teach, two learn’. Means, the more you tech, the more you learn. And abosultely become more expert.. :)

    • Gideon Shalwick

Some wise words there Peter – I like it!

  24. I launched my maths blog last week and did a screencast as one of my launch posts – completely out of my comfort zone but what a buzz! I want to do some video blogging for my site, this video was the kickstart I need, so I’ll be stalking this blog and counting the seconds until you release your rapid video blogging materials! Thanks so much for sharing :)

  25. [..YouTube..] I love this! Very inspirational! Yes, I love online video too!

  26. MichaelDadona

Inspiring video and thank you, Gideon; for providing as well as the sharing value.

  27. Karee

    Hi Gideon,

    Great content as always!

Video interviews can be powerful but don’t you have to look presentable?

I was worried by your appearance on camera. Your face does not look good with that stubble and that zit in the middle of your nose. I kept staring at it and wondering why you chose to make a shoot without even a touch of make-up.

Keep up the good work and, for heavens sake, please shave!

    • Gideon Shalwick

      Hey Karee

Yeah I was a bit worried about my appearance too!

But then, I thought, what the heck, this is YouTube, and the whole idea is that you come across as real as possible. In the end, this can help you connect better with your audience, because no longer are you a distant celebrity figure on the TV screen… but instead a real person that other people can associate with and interact with.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious 😉 I’ll do my best not to get pimples on my face anymore… especially not on my nose again – yuck!

  28. Thanks Gideon for the inspiring video. You have given me what I need to make more videos for my blogs, even though I’m still going to be posting articles. Having articles and videos would certainly make my blogs more interesting.

Thanks, I appreciate what you are doing.

  29. [..YouTube..] @GreenGorillaVideo Awesome – lots more cool stuff coming up shortly…

  30. GreenGorillaVideo

I love this! Very inspirational! Yes, I love online video too!

  31. GideonShalwick

  32. LucienMoons

    great info thank you man

  33. Hi Gideon,
Thank you for the great tips, It has opened my eyes in regards to sending my
    message to the world.

    The Jay.

  34. Nice interview & tips. I’m considering video blogging myself.
But I’m not sure which video editing program & camera to use.
    Any recommendations?

    • Gideon Shalwick

My next video will provide some solutions…

In fact, I’ll be providing quite a bit of detail to help you out, including:

      1. What equipment to use
      2. How to plan for a sales video
      3. Tips on recording, editing, exporting and uploading to YouTube

      Coming soon!

  35. Great way to get things done Gideon! I followed along the interview to the very last second. Can’t wait to get that report on Rapid Video from you soon to learn the process, hopefully it’ll also entail some of the technical process which comes with it all. Will it be an extension of the X-Factor strategies you’ve covered in Become A Blogger? If so, please include the mindmaps as well. I get a lot from those.

PS – Nice job on the gravatar. I see you!

    • Gideon Shalwick

If all else goes well Thu, the report should be released within the next few weeks (and by “if all else goes well” I mean, if we don’t get another baby arriving 6 weeks early like Lucy, our new girl lol!).

It will cover some things MUCH more advanced than the X-Factor strategies in The Roadmap To Become A Blogger – I think it’s my best work yet!

      Not long now!

PS: Thanks for the Gravatar tip – I see you! ( :) )

  36. Hans

    Hi Gideon,

I was considering buying your Become a Blogger Premium (as an upsell for KYT Strategies) and looked at free Video #4 about installing WordPress. There I learned that your entire course in based on WordPress v2.6.3.

Now that version 3.0 is here, will you be re-recording your videos to bring them up to date? I’m concerned that learning about v2.6.3 will have me up-to-date circa 2008 and not 2010.

Please feel free to contact me off-blog at my given e-mail address.

Thanks for any news and insight you can share!

    • Gideon Shalwick

      Hey Hans

We’ve left the course videos at version 2.6.3 for now, just to keep everyone on the same page for the course.

But then, at the end of the course, we show everyone how to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress in any case.

Definitely planning to re-record the videos at some point…

  37. Gideon – great information as usual! I love your idea of taking simple text questions and turning it into a video. Much more intriguing.

Video is something I would really like to incorporate more of and you’re my main go-to guy for information on the subject.

Question – how did you first gather up the nerve to get in front of the camera?

    Thanks Gideon!

    • Gideon Shalwick

      Hey Sean

I think gathering up the nerve to be in front of camera came with time. The more I did it, the more comfortable I started feeling.

I think something that can really help is to look at the camera as simply a friend that you’re talking to.

Or sometimes, you could do the interview style thing, where you don’t actually have to look at the camera – that can often help a lot too at the beginning.

      All the best!

  38. Hello Gideon,

Yours is the first site that I have seen devoted to video blogging. I am looking forward to learning more about this venue. I want to start putting more videos on my blog. Thanks for the tips that you give. I will start following your site on a regular basis.

    • Gideon Shalwick

Thanks Alice – lots more cool stuff coming up shortly!

  39. Does your fridge ever chat back? :)

  40. I love this format, Gideon! (Also love your accent, BTW) This type of “interview” video would be great to use during the launch of my Training Program for Realtors called “Secret Agent Blueprint”.
Thank you for sharing all of this, and the great report that I have downloaded and will consume tomorrow. I found you through Yaro, and look forward to more of your lessons.

  41. [..YouTube..] Interesting video! I have been making money blogging using Caffeinated Content for WordPress from CaffeinatedContentPlus (dot) com. How does your system compare?

  45. Thanks for all your great video tips and Rapid Video Blogging Report, Gideon. I’m just now starting my online business and really appreciate your video and blogging information. I’ve been on holiday and was sorry to have missed your Outsourcing Video Production Webinar. Will you be offering it in the future, or is it possible to get it somewhere now?

    • Gideon Shalwick

      Hey Linda

Yes you can still get access to the recording – please email me at support[at] (replace [at] with @), and we can set you up with something…

  46. Yes, the video was really very helpful to me and it teaches me many things.

Upto now I was using only content for blogging but now onwards I would try to apply these things which I have learned here.

    Thanks a lot!

  47. [..YouTube..] I don’t think they are racist, I use them to make money with ez-casino(dot)com, I’m very happy with the results! :)

  50. [..YouTube..] For some reason this looks like you’re looking at an item afar off (like a mannequin head or something) while answering the questions you asked or that many people on you’re page are asking or want to know. If so it sure is a cool and professional way of answering many questions people have for you, but it also might be a downfall due to the interview being fake and probably would cause you to lose views. I’m not sure what the reaction of people on here would be over something like this though.

  51. Thanks for all your tips about video blogging. Very informative, I’m currently going to use them in my new niche website. I’m thinking about using the caffeinated plugin, I think it will help me produce alot of content and get hits.

  52. You have created great videos. They are very helpful for newbies and experts as well. The best what I’ve found in your videos is your passion, committment, truthfullness and sincerity. Keep up the great work.

  53. Thanks for all your tips about creating video blogging its very informative and useful in internet marketing

  54. That’s a nice vid.
Videos are so powerful as they keep your audience occupied while getting your message across powerfully. Plus search engines also value them.

In my opinion, they are even easier to produce than content. Well, they’re more fun to create that’s for sure.
