Yes, Ed is as very subtle and clever marketer. He can get genuinely teary eyed about a product he’s promoting even if he’s not that familiar with it and hasn’t proven it’s actual worth yet but sees a great potential in it.

That can bite him one day but for now it’s paying off for him.

I can see the iPad proving very popular among baby boomers, new retirees, grey nomads, or whatever you prefer to call them. It’s the ultimate simple tool for their needs – web browsing, email, and showing off photos (and increasingly, video) of their grandkids. And it can do all that while they’re travelling.

This is a market that’s under-served by current software, web apps, ebooks, etc. So there’s a goldmine waiting for people that are able to fill that niche.

I’m sure there’s going to be new mobile themes specifically for the iPad.. and obviously new apps that take advantage of the increased size plus touch screen… videos will explode as well..

re: iPad – I’ve been a strong supporter of the iPad since its first announcement – I use the iPod Touch at the moment and plan to buy an iPad in the near future. I compose text for my blog while I’m mobile, and I can check my e-mail, etc, etc, etc, on the iPod Touch, so the iPad (the iPod’s big bro) will become an active part of my electronic life-style – hey, thanks for the information.
an associated of my oldest daughter just went to work for a company in London and they bought iPad’s for ALL their employees . . . if you miss this wave their won’t be another this good for quite awhile.

Interesting interview Gideon. However, I am not going to be able to benefit from the iPad craze here in Hungary. Apple products have never really become widespread here. Very few people use a Mac or have an iPhone. Part of the reason is price. Hungary is just not a lucrative market for Apple. Understandable. It’s a small country with thin wallets.

But good luck to you. I am sure many savvy marketers will make a fortune riding the iPad wave.

Being close to LA, I go and visit the Ipad on weekly.
I agree with Ed, the Ipad is the most exciting and sturdy of recent creatures.
I hesitate to take the plunge.
I would like to replace my current “machine” with such a handy device.
When we get to that point I will!

Well done Gideon. Thanks so much for interviewing Ed Dale on the iPad. Very interesting spin on what uses it will have for the future.

For me as an author, very exciting possibilities and I’d better get those other projects underway and find a way to design them so they are iPad friendly.

I have to agree that the iPad is a big change in computing. Just read an article in Times Magazine here in the USA.

I’m listening to this interview – fantastic you are able to bring this interview to us, Gideon!

I’m actually a little confused with this iPad – why would it be better than what I’ve already got? How does it benefit me right now? What is it that’s so special over and above what I’ve already got at home?

I’ve got the iPhone – great for when I’m out and about and very user friendly, small enough to put in my back pocket, take with me cycling. I’ve got the “Eee pc” top of the range laptop which is superb because I can fit it in my handbag and can type and manage my work anywhere – fantastic product btw – a real ‘lap top’. I have a Mac computer big screen for my work at home with access to watching TV when I want, films online if I miss them on TV etc.

What I’m saying is, I have everything at my fingertips, so why and how will the iPad going to benefit me?

Yes, I’m keeping my eyes open the e-book market through iBooks – this IS interesting, although Amazon is still King for me.

As you can see, I’m still to be convinced in buying the iPad.

Which just goes to show that he is a *publicity genius* because people don’t even realise that’s what he is also doing–(subtle publicity) is the best form of publicity! Hi Jules.
True about that but you maybe missing the point. You actually sync it through the cloud as the cloud is where the future of storage is. Then you can access your info from your PC or Mac on your iPad, iPhone etc from wherever you are. Total mobility.

I was told that ipad doesn’t have facility to plug in memory stick etc?
which would limit moving from computer to ipad and back.
also, as it is on apple platform, would not be compatible with non-apple??

weeks ago, i did a post on “why the ipad sucks”– i have tons of reasons since i expected more. Some people also argue that its much fun to read on the kindle than the ipad. I have yet to try that out. Although i will call this “my douchepad” , i think its worth keeping. Besides, its handy and can slip into BIG pockets (only if you have one )
