[..YouTube..] I agree… video marketing is excellent! I’d rather watch a video tutorial than read one! :)

[..YouTube..] Hi Gideon
Great quality Vid. I started with a flip but the problem I had with it was it’s a MOV file and I don’t have a Mac. So I had to put the vid through a converter. I would like to know how you set up your mic. Also are you on a green screen? The black seemed so perfect…I loved it really and if so what software did you use? Also do you ever read off of a script? I doesn’t seem like you do…(-: Anyway..great vid. now I want to know more! (-:

[..YouTube..] Cheers Juho!

I’m really loving this. Helps me be creative while I teach – the most excellent combination for my personality profile (creator/star – Roger Hamilton).

Let me know if there is anything specific I can create for you ok?

[..YouTube..] Not Yielding?

Hmmm… tough one. Let me think about it ;)

[..YouTube..] Awesome! That’s exactly how I feel about it too… and it seems most of my audience as well!

We’ve been SO programmed with television over the last few decades – to me it’s no wonder that we prefer videos online.

[..YouTube..] Hey Debby

I’m just using a black screen – it’s a piece of black material that I got from the material shop for a few bucks – actually, my wife got it for me.

Not using a script at the moment – just talking from my head – it seems to come out more natural that way, which is what I want. Still working on being more personable in my vids :)

I’ll be revealing my exact setup pretty soon. So, keep watching :)

Thank you for getting back with me! Great job I really thought for sure you were on a green screen!
LOL…anyway I’m enjoying your Vids!

I’m looking forward to your next Video tip!

[..YouTube..] I used to use green screen all the time.

But the time it takes to setup, edit and export the videos with green screens are just a little nuts.

So, this solution is nice and fast for me – which is the name of the game for online video in my view – fast but still high quality :)

Hey Gideon,

Excellent myth busters you’ve raised! I have to admit it was thanks to you that I started to get into video and since then a lot of people have been asking me how I create high quality videos. Well, I always send them over to your GetYourVideosOnline website and lots of people have been thanking me for that too.

I also agree with you about myth 2 – that technology is available and it’s not expensive to create good videos. Even the simplest webcam will do the job which may not be anymore than $100.00.

By the way, Mac rocks! Thanks to your recommendations I’ve increased my productivity and created lots of awesome videos for my members.

Nice Polos by the way. :)

Great video and delivery. Here’s my excuse. I’m camera shy! I did do a video post on my blog once to show I could but have never repeated it. You can check it out at the “What everyone ought to know about their own identity” post. Painful really:)

Meanwhile you seem totally at ease chatting away to yourself and eyeballing the camera as if it’s your best mate! I but it’s like anything else – practice makes perfect. Thanks for all your tips, I’ll keep at it.

Hey Annabel

I’ve found it becomes easier the more you do it.

Another idea is to get someone else to be in front of the camera for you. They could either read a script you’ve given them, or if they are an expert, you can just do some kind of a jv deal with them. Like I did with Jay Jay at http://www.FreeMagicLive.com.

All the best!

I agree with you up to a point Gideon – to make very simple voice to camera videos or the Screen capture videos need not be difficult or expensive.

However, it does depend slightly on the niche – I blog in the travel niche and the videos I produce tend to be a bit more complex and I’ve found that Windows Movie Maker was not up to scratch as I couldn’t do video overlay. So I spend around £40 on entry level video editing software that was more versatile – not a huge expense but not free.

One tip for people who are really on a shoe string budget is that they may find that their existing stills camera already has a video function, so they could use that to at least get started.

Good point Heather

I don’t use free software myself, but for people just starting out, this is a good option.

But even the software I use now costs less than 100 dollars. So, from a professional video production point of view, this is extremely affordable.

Hey Gideon….

great video and great content to destroy all the mythsout there.

What camera did you shot this video on, compared to the previous video.?

It seems a lot clearer. Was it the lightning? Was it the file format you exported in?

it looked great!!

Would love for you to tell what you did differently.

Hey Kantis

Very soon I’m releasing a course that will show you exactly what I do to record these kind of videos.

It’s a solution I’ve discovered after about 4 yrs of trial and error – it’s fast and easy and fun, and also very affordable :)

More info coming soon…

BTW, I grabbed a copy of ScreenFlow the other day on your recommendation, it’s awesome! I am so glad I’m on a Mac. ;)

Hi Gideon,
Good to find you again on the internet. These myths you speak of are the very things that I was fearing for a long time. But thanks to you and some others who are putting up great content about marketing online especially using video, I have taken the first steps toward firing my boss!

I signed up for your mailing list. Thanks for all the great info here. You Aussies ROCK.

Do you accept video responses on YouTube, cuz I posted one to your YouTube video “Myths Exposed” but you haven’t approved it yet. I would so much appreciate it if you would. I think it might be funny, or at least it was my attempt at humor but it makes reference to video marketing. Please check it out and if you think it is OK can you approve it? Thanks! Judi

Thanks for debunking those three video myths, and letting us know about a few ways that you produce your videos.

I think you forgot #4: Not wanting to be in front of the camera. Not everyone is as good looking as you and we all don’t have sexy accents to go along with the good looks. Some of us are just camera shy and have been and always will be. It looks like screen shots for us shy guys.

[..YouTube..] People don’t realize how much they can really do themselves if they just get creative and think outside the box a bit. All it takes is a little elbow grease half the time.

[..YouTube..] Gideon, love the advice. You’re right, you can buy an HD quality Flip video camera for under $200. Throw in some inexpensive lighting from eBay, and you’re ready to go. Great stuff!

Reply

29 GideonShalwick March 30, 2010 at 5:38 pm

[..YouTube..] @marketingtutor Yeah just use Camtasia, or if you’re on Mac, like I am, use Screenflow. Really easy to do. Just make sure you use a good microphone as well. That can really help the quality of the recording. I recommend a Snowball Mic.

Hi,
I agree with you fully as regards free video marketing. But I’m taking Frank Kern’s course now, and they have of course quite superior stuff, professional cameras and so on. The videos are in mp4-format and stored on Amazon, they are much too big for any free video storage site. And you of course only get access if you’re a customer. How do you solve that problem?

[..YouTube..] Hey Gids,

Thanks for spilling out the myths and breaking them. Fortunately, I’ve loved video so much that I also wanted to help people through this medium. At first it might not be too easy to create quality videos and having you looking professional and sounding professional at the same time as well.

Honestly, I’m much comfortable this time so it’s all about practice and then it’s not going to be hard anymore. :)

[..YouTube..] @tyroneshum So true Tyrone – definitely a good idea to just keep on practicing. If I look at some of my earlier videos, I just cringe, but I keep them on there to remind me how much I’ve learned over the years.

One definitely becomes more comfortable and natural over time, as you get more used to yourself in front of the camera :)

[..YouTube..] Your lav mic works on your flip cam? which adapter did you use?

Also, you have pretty decent lighting… I know you have sun light coming in from your right. How else did you light your video?

Also, you are very well spoken. Most people out there are not as well spoken as you are in front of the camera. And most people don’t know how to cut from tight to wide vice versa like you are doing on this video.

35 GideonShalwick July 13, 2010 at 6:01 pm

[..YouTube..] @UVStudio Hey!

Thanks for all the compliments! Much appreciated!

I use a separate voice recorder for my audio with my Flip – then just match it all up during editing. Pretty straight forward. I reveal how I do it at RapidVideoBlogging DOOOT COOOM (have to use funny url otherwise YouTube wont show it).
