My One Bit Of Advice For Success As An Entrepreneur

“…you have crystal clear double vision, put on some blinkers so that you can have laser focus on your hedgehog concept, and apply everlasting persistence on your hedgehog concept. “

Rob Rammuny, from robwebstips.com asked me a question… “If you had to give one bit of advice to an entrepreneur, what would it be and why?” I came up with three concepts that will help you, entrepreneurs, achieve success in whatever online business you venture into.

Inside the video I talk about each of these concepts and explain how they work together to form a powerful unity to help you succeed for the long term.

[..YouTube..] @junowhoim It’s my new Canon T2i 550D DSLR camera – it’s great in some respects, but it also has it’s own drawbacks. Eg, it can only record for 12 minutes at a time, and the files are huge.

[..YouTube..] @bookingselect I use a Rode Lapel Mic plugged into an Edirol Voice recorder. And the microphone in the background is a Rode Podcaster – great microphone!

[..YouTube..] @thePodcastProfessor I just use the annotations feature inside YouTube – really easy and straight forward to do. Just go to the editing interface of your video on YouTube, and then look for the annotations tab.

[..YouTube..] @u63mc …I’d say that word neologisms is a bit OTT as I don’t know what it means! lol!

[..YouTube..] Yeah great video as always. Recently became a youtube partner and I attribute that to the wonderful video tips you have created on your youtube channel….Still perfecting my hedgehog concept though…a work in progress you might say!

[..YouTube..] @GideonShalwick Thank you Gideon. I’m actually a running higher audio bit rate than what you post on your blog. Do you ever run your audio through a pro program prior to output for upload? Do you set your maximum audio peaks to a certain level? A couple years ago YouTube changed a few audio settings and we started setting outputs to -1 db. I recently read -3db works best now. I use Soundtrack Pro and use its compressor function and roll off the low end. Any thoughts/feedback?

[..YouTube..] Loved your video. Bit of a difference in terminology…the term most Americans use for horse blinkers or winkers is blinders. I spent too much time trying to figure out what a horse blinker was. :)

[..YouTube..] @GideonShalwick
Don’t mean to be the lone dissenter here lol.

OTT= Over The Top
Neologism= Unique word created by someone for something.

Such as:

“Get crystal vision first, double vision, figure out your hedgehog concept and apply laser focus on that, once you have the hedgehog concept put blinkers on”

“Failure cannot cope with everlasting persistence when you apply laser focus to your own hedgehog concept”

I guess basically what I’m asking is whether this is intentonal on your part or not

[..YouTube..] Hi Gideon,
What constant progression in your art of “RapidVideo” presentation !
I wonder what is the focal length you use.
Canon : EF 28mm f/1.8 USM, EF 35mm f/2, EF 35mm f/1.4L USM, EF 50 mm f/1.8…?
Thanking you in anticipation,
Stefan

[..YouTube..] @arike2 Hey Arike – thanks for the nice words. Yeah I know what you mean about critics. But that just seems normal once you reach a certain level of success – tall poppy syndrome. It’s pretty common over here in my neck of the woods. A pity really, but it seems part of reality :)

What video encoding do you recommend for ease in video editing ?
- .MOV / MPeg-4 AVC (H.264) by Canon
- AVCHD (50i) by Sony (alpha 33/55)
Have a nice day,

[..YouTube..] @StefanCherpin If you’re on a Mac, the .MOV format is brilliant! Similar on PC, but not as good.

Laser focus…definitely laser focus. It’s so tempting (and easy!) to get sidetracked but I think the best marketing videos focus in and hammer on one point and one call to action.

Oh, and putting in a cliffhanger at the end of the video – that’s one of my favorite tips. :)

Couple of issues, cutaways of website and the graphic not held long enough on screen.

Drop shadow has issues, it’s too far away from text and too opaque.

Hey, Gideon, it is a really thoughtful video. Most time, we know what we need, but ignore what our competitors are doing, it is dangerous. Just like, Sun Zi said:
” Hence the saying: If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy,
for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Please keep putting posts, I watch every one of them! Thanks!

Great advice Gideon! Can I ask you what camera you would recommend, as I need to shoot video where I am moving. I don’t want to have to buy a wireless mic, so what affordable camera, that is easy to use and edit video, and upload would you recommend?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Entepreneurs are among the most PASSIONATE people I know. They are creative, inspired and energized… All good, yet this can lead to feeling scattered, overwhelmed with ideas and many different paths to explore.

I like your blinker focus concept. By staying laser focused on one or two KEY concepts for your business, you will enjoy completion and success, and the benefits that a strong, streamlined brand affords.

Thank you Gideon!

Hi Gideon,

Can you please help me?

How do I convert my Imovie project to mp3 file in order to transcribe my video?

Best regards,
Anesh

Hi Anesh

Here’s what you do…

First export your movie to a .mov file using iMovie.

Then, use Xilisoft to convert the .mov file to an mp3 file.

Easy peasy!

Just get the standard version for Xilisoft… I think it’s around 30 bucks?

Gideon,

I wanted to find your best link to send to a friend and this is what came up. Even though I am not going down this path myself, I think my friend should and therefore I think she needs you. I couldn’t resist hearing what you had to say, so I clicked “play” and had a listen.

I think your advice has a spiritual as well as technical nature to it and is therefore even more powerful. I’m so glad to be introducing my friend to your world and hope she takes my suggestion.

Focusing is really key. The more time you spend getting sidetracked is more time that you are losing money:)

BTW I think you mean horse blinders rather than blinkers…..
