Productivity Tips – How Your Environment Can Make Or Break Your Business!

Hey, I’ve got a new office! ;)

Yeah, I’ve just moved in to this amazing place which I  show you inside this video. I’ve worked from home for the last five years and I am very excited to see my business move to a higher level of productivity with my new environment.

Do you know that your work environment influences your performance and productivity? Meaning, if your environment is slack, you’ll have the tendency of becoming slack too. But if you create a fantastic environment and interact with awesome people, your results will definitely be very favorable!

Inside this video, I talk more about the critical importance of your environment in the growth of your business. I share two levels of environment that you can work on to be able to increase your productivity, improve your performance and be successful in your online business.

Watch the video now and please leave your comments below. Let me know your thoughts and experiences about the success (or failure) of your business as a result of your environment!

Congrats on the video Gideon. I actually train people in David Allens GTD approach plus a few other best practices and part of that is setting up physical and digital space. I love it. Thx @FreeMindGuy PS – what is the best colour paint for making a green screen wall? PPS Idea for vid is using a content calendar ..

Hi Gigeon, so much agree with your video. One the first things I do when setting up to work for the day is to ensure that my room looks and feels organised and all clutter removed. Colour, space and light has an importance to keep the spirits high. I also think that the place needs to be quite where distractions are minimal. The less clutter the less distraction. Another great resource for productivity is the Now Habit available from Amazon. Totally agree with surrounding ourselves with like minded people because this is where we can get our main inspiration. Enjoy your new office Gideon and look forward to watching more videos. I have been following your program and very much enjoying the video blogging experience.

Hey Paul

Thanks for the extra insights! I love the idea of clearing out your working area before starting every day. There is something about removing clutter that just helps the mind think better it seems!

Hey Gideon,

Good luck with your new studio setup man!

It really looks great and I believe you will definitely increase your productivity just by working there.

I like how much light was coming from the ceiling alone, I think you already took care of that and hopefully you’ll share what you did to condition the place for your great video work.

Thanks!

Awesome video. Yep, your environment can drain your energy if it’s not Organised and clean.

I got an idea for a video, but I don’t know if anyone can pull this type of video off. I want to know how to find your talents. It seems impotent to know what you dislike and like in internet marketing to choose your passionate niche. Most of the problem in internet marketing is people have worked so hard they don’t know what they really love doing any more or how to find what they love doing.

Laat dit goed gaan :D

Looks awesome. What is that green wall for? Green Screen?
I use PC (sony vegas pro 11), and I dont know if it’s because of that but green screen never worked (lots of image problems). If I used Mac would it be better?
Thanks.
And congratulations for the new office!

Reply

32 Gideon Shalwick December 1, 2011 at 9:45 am

The green wall was already there when I moved in. I am actually going to paint it all white!

My opinion is that green screen is better suited for the weather channel! I stopped using green screen about 2 years ago, and now only use a white screen – much better quality outcome and much easier!

And yes, Mac gives a TON better results for green screen if that is what you want to do.

@TheFreeMindGuy Hey FreeMindGuy! Yeah GTD is pretty awesome! As to color… I am not an expert with chroma key, but I reckon true green works well. For me, darker was better than brighter. Too bright and it reflects too much onto the subject. What do you mean by content calendar?

Hi Gideon, Yes environment plays a major role in the outcomes that we would like to achieve. The most important environment that we live in is not outside ourselves, but it is ourselves. If we clean up our environment of our mind and body we can achieve greater results. Look at your diet, your breathing, your thought patterns, are they inducive to productivity or are they limiting you?

Hey Gideon,

I agree it is tough sometimes for me to work out of my house.

I have many time thought of getting an office because I am interrupted many times in my home office.

You new studio looks pretty cool.

I’ve been recording a lot of my video’s lately on my Iphone outdoors.

Reply

44 Gideon Shalwick December 1, 2011 at 9:51 am

Hey Ryan

Yeah I reckon if there are too many distractions at home, you’ll get a lot more done in an office.

The first 5 years for me at home was fine, but now the “distractions” have become too much.

The new office has already helped me be a TON more focused!

Talk soon!

Hey Gideon,

As a ardent fan and follower of yours, I would really like to hear you speak to the Free Magic Live Youtube Channel ban. Do you have any insight you can offer, or point me to any insight you have offered?

Thanks

Reply

49 Gideon Shalwick November 27, 2011 at 10:53 am

Hey Dave

There has been quite a trend of people losing their YouTube channels. Sometimes people lose it for legit reasons, but some other times the reasons seem in-explicable. And YouTube is not exactly forthcoming with their information.

Now, about the FreeMagicLive channel that got suspended…

I have not been involved in that business for about a year now, so I am not privy to the information inside their business anymore. I was involved in setting up the business for the first year, but then exited the business once I started focusing on Rapid Video Blogging.

I can assure you of one thing though. ALL the strategies I teach as part of Rapid Video Blogging are above board and are as white hat as you can get. And in fact, I regularly recommend people stay away from any black or even grey hat strategies when it comes to their YouTube channel. The risk is just to great to insult the Google/YouTube giant!

Also, as part of that, I recommend that people ALWAYS have a great backup strategy as well, just in the small chance they may lose their account.

In Jay Jay’s case, even though he lost his account, because of the way we set it up at the beginning, he still has his email list of close to 50,000, and some very happy fans that he can keep on getting in touch with still. So, he does not have to start from scratch again. In fact, my understanding is that he’s already started a new channel, and getting a great following there now.

If you’d like more information on my opinion about this whole termination thing happening, I created a video about it quite some time ago over here:

http://gideonshalwick.com/youtube-account-terminated/

Just let me know if you have any other questions Dave :)

The main video editing program I recommend for beginner video marketers (who want to do their own editing) is ScreenFlow on Mac.

The free iMovie is also great and easy to use, but it’s a bit limited in it’s features.

[..YouTube..] I first found you over a year ago based on searching for a flip cam review. I really liked your reviews and wouldn’t mind seeing you do a few more reviews. The review you did really helped me decide if I should get a flip or not. Other videos I enjoyed watching you do are your HOW TO videos.

Hello Gideon,

I really liked you approach on creating videos for business… I would like to know if you create “customized videos”, like one that would be a quick-start guide for the website:

Get it touch if you are interested on the challenge…

Wow I get the feeling “fernandolawl” is keen to ensure you do some more reviews. :)

I really enjoyed this review and totally agree – It is so important to get your surrounding right. We forget that we can be spending 40+ hours a week in this space. It needs to help inspire, motivate and give us drive otherwise those hours are just going to plod along in a dreary, painful way with nothing to show for it at the end.

Hello Gideon,
It’s fantastic video… I’m using same technique to make my videos, but the problem that I always find that I can’t find your lighting system in my country, and I try to import it from USA (for example) it will be very expensive.
Anyway… I’m continuing learn from your useful videos and I’m trying to do the best to help people in the middle east to know about video blogging and E-marketing.

Thanks

Gideon, I’m a recent follower of yours and so far I really love what I’m reading and hearing so far. This particular post truly hit home and I agree with you 100%. Creating a working environment, is something I need to work on, thanks for the tips…love yours by the way, did you choose the green on purpose for video or was that a color that sets the mood for you? (just curious).

[..YouTube..] Hey Gideon, just saw your most recent video with the updated office layout. Love it! But the lesson from this video really got me thinking. So many are stuck on the idea of ‘working from home’. You’re totally right, your environment is everything and the more I think of it, the more I want my own office surrounded by like minded people rather than ‘working from home’. Now I know what I want my office to look like, it’s time to go forth and make it happen. Here’s to an amazing year ahead! :)

Just saw your latest video with the office completely arranged.

Fantastic job Gideon!

I’m interested in your work flow and output of finished videos.

Do you set goals for a certain # of videos that you create, produce and publish per week or per month? Now That you have this great new office.

Would you mind sharing more about that?

[..YouTube..] Gideon,

Thanks for the great “reminder” message, Gideon. The quality of the environment between our ears is directly correlated the environment outside those ears. I am a beginning you tuber and am so excited to have found your channel. Thanks for the great substantive talks. Any ideas or pointers on how to leverage the hedgehog effect as a real estate company?

[..YouTube..] Hi Gideon,

Nice videos and thoughts! I am very thankful that I have found you in the web!

I would like to ask you about Depth of Field, and what can we make in the very early stage of our entrepreneurial adventure (like: when we do not have a good camera, or when we do not have the right equipment, etc).

Thank you for your videos,
Rony
