Happy New Year!
As promised, I am giving you a tour of my new office!
Inside this video, I show you in detail how I have setup my workplace for maximum productivity. I am so excited to share with you my Video Production Studio, my work station and a few more areas inside my office that I use when I record videos.
The first few days of the new year have proven to be VERY productive for me indeed. Moving into a new office and having the right setup for my Video Production Studio has provided me the focus and clarity that I need for my business.
I am sure you will get tons of ideas on how you too could modify or improve your physical environment to take your business to a whole new level and get you the results you want.
What do you say about my new office? Please leave your comments below.

Inside this video I want to show you the layout and why I’ve got certain things in certain places; and how this is allowing me to pop out videos and content and be super productive much much more than I ever was before.
I’ll be taking the camera next and show you around the room, the whole layout and why I’ve got everything in certain spaces.
Alright, talk to you soon!
– – –
Here is the outside door of my office. I’m just going to walk in and take you through a quick journey or tour of the office. I’m standing right at the door. This is kind of what it looks like as you come. To my right, I’ve got my workstation. My work table, as you could see, is a standing desk. So there’s no chair there for me to sit on or be lazy.
Over here, I’ve got a nice little couch if I want to get lazy or take a nap … I currently have the old Aeron chair on there but frankly, I don’t actually use it that much. I might take it back home again.
Got my bookcase over here where I have all my business books stacked up. That’s not even all of them. But I’m still filling them up as I go.
Just having a quick look here at my whiteboard. That’s very important. This is a tremendous tool in my business. It’s about 3.6 meters long… Let me just see if I stand back so you can get a bit of perspective here. Yeah, it’s pretty big.
It’s right next to my little standing desk here so if I move back a bit, that’s where I’ll be standing and doing my work during the day. It’s pretty effective. I’ve got my computer here with my microphone that’s handy there to do webinars and talk on Skype, etc.
From time to time, I’ll grab my little Air laptop and do some stuff on the couch or go to the coffee shop and do some work there.
But this is sort of my work area where I spend quite a bit of time to get stuff done. Something really important that I want to show you here
(I’m just going to focus for a second. Let me just move back)… Here’s my planner.
I’m not sure what it’s going to look like over here. It might look a bit funny, cause it’s basically a bunch of squares and lines on a whiteboard type of surface. It’s just a laminated area.
This is where I plan out all my projects. It’s still at the beginning of the year so I still need to plan out a few things.
Okay, so this is where I get stuff done. This is how I try and be as effective as I can be.
Let’s have a look at the second part of my office now which is the Studio part.
If we walk in here… I’ll give you a bit of a pan of the area. This is where I record most of my videos. As you can see over here, there are two lights here. These lights are used for lighting up the background.
And what I’ve got here is pretty much just a white wall. I used to have a white sheet that I used but I’ve found that just a non-reflective paint works quite well for getting those nice white wall effect that I have on my videos.
Now, let’s move into the studio a little bit closer. Let’s get into if I stand in position. So this is where I’ll normally be standing when I’m recording. What you see there in front of you are two lights for lighting up the subject, which in this case will be me.
There’s also a teleprompter there that you see. Behind that would normally be the camera that I’m holding right now. The camera that I’m holding right now is a Canon 60D and I’m recording on a lapel mic, a Sony lapel mic which is the URX-P2 system, I believe. So that gives me a nice sound and really clear picture quality.
Over there is a little printer which is nicely out of the way. It is a wireless printer, that means I don’t have to have it on my desk to save some space.
To my left, just slightly behind me, is the one light that lights up the background. If I go back to my right is the other light lighting up the background.
So I’m kind of just standing in front of it… If I were to look at the white wall that’s right behind me. There’s the one light. There’s my feet. I’ll probably stand about in that position. There, you see the other light. I’ll just turn around again. Perhaps, I’ll have a plan view of this so you can see what I mean with my layout.
There’s one recording place or option. This is the way I’ve set this up so that I can have multiple recording options.
Another option is, I guess, for me to stand at my desk and kind of look back, maybe in an angle like this and look towards the camera. Do some sort of a recording show that I’m working on the computer.
Another one is where basically I’ll place the camera in pretty much this kind of position, maybe zoomed in more. Something like this. So that I’ll be sitting on the chair or a couch and have the nice bookcase as the background.
So there are now three different recording scenarios that I can have here. And a fourth one… This is something that I still need to build in. It’s once again on the couch (let’s just zoom out a bit), but this time have a nice background.
I’m looking for a nice background that I can put here, maybe like a brick background or some sort of nature scene, or something that will look nice while I’m sitting on the couch as a background.
That’s it! Back to me sitting on this chair, recording in the third position.

So, what did you think? Do you think this is something that you can implement in your own home? Perhaps at your own office, perhaps you could set aside an area in your home or at your office where you can dedicate it to content creation; whether it’s content for YouTube, content for products, content for marketing.
Think about it. If you have a dedicated space like this, how much easier it will be for you to just dominate.
Tell me what you thought about this video. Leave your comment below. I’d love to hear from you. Share this with your friends on Twitter, on Facebook. And remember to subscribe, here’s the link right here, boom!

looks like a lot of improvements since the 1st video you sent. Gideon. I am adding a video from TV Show How Studio … BTW. Let’s schedule an interview as I would like you to Anchor the 1st Channel on Web Marketing on TV Show How… You got my contact info. Hope you are checking this Gideon
Wow Gideon it looks amazingly beautiful!
And your audio is, as always outstanding!
@KaboomPages Hey Amid – sure thing for the interview – can you please get in touch via email so my manager can arrange a time? Thanks for staying in touch!
@johnnybrazil01 Hey Johnny – thanks man! It’s been a while in the making – always working on small improvements all the time, which eventually adds up to a big change
Great design and implementation.Looks like a fun / practical space to work and film.
Gideon, as a YouTuber I’m challenged by eliminating the “uhs” and “ums” during recording, yet somehow you seem to speak perfectly fluently without needing any time to think about what you’re going to say mid-sentence. How do you do it?
@tylerplack Hey Tyler – I guess some of it comes with practice over time. But what I often do beforehand, is create some kind of a layout of all the things I want to talk about. So, before I hit record,I am pretty clear on the things I want to cover. And another tip, just talk into the camera just like you’re talking to a friend. That seems to help a lot. Failing that… perhaps use a teleprompter?I sometimes do use one, but only for videos where I want to get each word exactly right
@GideonShalwick and @tylerplack I agree with Gideon’s one point – practice. When I joined the Toastmasters group I did not realize that I used ahs and ums so much. Once I saw myself on video during practices, wow! I am still not perfect, but the frequency has dropped a lot.
I really appreciated this view into your “studio” and especially your description of the logic you used in the design. I must say I was surprised a bit with how much use you get out of the small space.
One question Gideon. Do you always stand at the computer, even when typing a fair bit?
@inetincome thanks for the kind comments! I try to get most of my work done while standing. Great health benefits, but it also means I am much more focused on getting things done so I dont have to be at the computer all the time. For more “creative” typing sessions, I often go to a coffee shop… where there are seats… and coffee!
I only understand a little, but i like your channel.
Greetings from Ancud-Chile!
@Sinedicion13 great to have you here all the way from Ancud-Chile!
Great video as always @GideonShalwick
I don’t know if I could set up a dedicated recording area in my house or not because when my Girlfriend comes home from work she doesn’t like to see another business place. I might take stuff out of one of the closets though and see about making that at least the recording area because that way I can close it up when she comes home.
@SellingCarsAjax ooh sounds cold there! I am standing here in shorts and t-shirt… hmmm sorry I should probably not rub it in like that lol!
I really got a lot out of this tour of your new studio. I have a question though about the lighting when you’re in front of the bookshelves – how do you position your lights for that position? Thanks heaps!
@GideonShalwick lol, when it hits zero we wear shorts too! It’s not pretty but we do!
@SellingCarsAjax ouch!
Great layout (and info) thanks Gideon!
@trishacupra911 for that I just grab one of the lights that I use for lighting up the wall, and I add a light diffuser to soften the light a bit. Pretty simple setup.
Great video Gideon, very professional. Quick question, do you have a greenscreen stand? If so do you just position that in front of the white wall background?
@LeonardFerrara no probs Leonard!
@joelwills Hey Joel! Great to see you on here! I have totally moved away from green screen videos now. Last one I did was about 2-3 years ago. It just seems so much overkill for online video. I reckon it’s best kept for the weather channel lol! But, if I still wanted to, yes I could just add say two tripods with a green screen in front of the white wall, and that would work perfectly.
Gracias Gideon!!! un abrazo. Thanks Gideon!!! A hug.
Great stuff, Gideon. Love the way you’ve transformed things…
I’ve also replied with a video comment here, linking to my recent post, where I gave a tour of my home office, too. Including my video set-up, too – just in case people fancy checking it out.
Looks great, Gideon. This weekend, my wife helped me move everything out of the guest room so I can have it for my studio! I also painted a wall with a flat white paint to be used as my future background. Are you concerned about having your studio away from the house? I’m guessing it’s quite intentional so you can focus on work while at work and on the family while at home.
@chrisducker ah cool stuff – will make sure I approve it Chris!
@CloudEssentials having a work place separate from where I live has helped me be WAY more productive than ever before. I get A LOT done now
Been totally worth it!
Very helpful as I’m setting up my upstairs video studio.
@GideonShalwick That’s good to know you’re way more productive. So while I’m excited about the new space, I’ll keep in mind that I should find a place offsite once I’m as successful as you.
@CloudEssentials I am sure it’s just a matter of time for you… diligence and focusing on the right things will get you there faster
Hello Gideon – awesome, my friend. Love the simple, effective, professional setup. You inspired me to finish mine at home (I have a small setup at the office) too. I like the background of shelves/books for sure. I remember you did one video with a wine (or champagne?) one time, gave that casual “let’s talk” idea. Inspiring my friend! Talk soon, Jon
@RickHunsicker very cool - glad you’ve found it useful!
Hey Gideon,
Great video. I’m currently building my studio in my basement and am actually about to purchase some lights. I was wondering if you could tell me which make/model/watts those softbox lights you have are?
Thanks a lot! Great quality video
@jonrognerud hey Jon – yeah the book case setting may become my “chat over a coffee” set of videos for the future – still developing that idea a bit. You remember well… the wine glass (it had punch in it
)
Awesome Gideon, congrats looks super HOT! Cheers Hayley
@profitwired Uhm they are called LightPro. One set has 2 x 55W lamps, and the other set has 4 x 55W. But there are more affordable options too.
@poweringsocialmedia thanks Hayley! Took me a while to get there
Great video, Gideon. I’ve got several places in my home where I could set up a tripod and be ready to go. I’m going to work on that next week. Thanks for the great ideas. And awesome clean office!
wow! This is for the pros! I’m still in the first cell of the domination matrix. lol Creating content like crazy…. in not so ideal conditions, of course….
@NinaAmir Thanks Nina – oh just remembered, we gotta get that interview sorted…
Great video Gideon … I do actually have a room that I could set up and leave it ready for recording. Seeing how you’ve laid it out has been really helpful. Your new office looks great !!!
@apblopes no worries… I started in my bedroom
@juliemlewin Hey Julie! Yeah having a “studio” where everything is setup and ready to ROCK is invaluable – saves SOOOO much time :)
Best video blogger in Australia and his new studio.
Looks fabulous! Looks like your ready to roll. Thanks for sharing the inside peek with us.
Hey Gideon! So nice to see your face (growing your hair hey!) LOVE your new office, congratulations! I heard you say you are using a canon camera now (instead of HD flip). Do you have to import those videos through imovie now before you get them into screenflow? I have a great canon but can’t seem to use that easy drag-and-drop method you teach in your FANTASTIC Rapid Video Blogging course using the flip. Do you know a secret fast way to get the videos off your canon you can share? Shan
Gideon, Nicely done video . Thank you for sharing your tips and equipment ideas. I really like the white backgrounds and have started one at my office. We operate a rural public access (non-profit) TV channel, and love your videos. They inspire us to do better and to be more creative. If you ever have any content or content ideas we could share with our viewers let us know.
Kirk
@shanlarter Hey Shan!!! Great to see you’re still around! I use the Canon 60D (DSLR Camera) which records in .mov, which I can directly use in ScreenFlow. But nowadays, I do very little of my own editing. Will share more on that soon…
@DeboraHumphries Hey Debora – yeah totally – it really is amazing how much productivity can increase once you have the right environment!
@TVUtah Thanks Kirk! Sounds like you’re doing some cool stuff there. You’re welcome to share any of the videos on my channel with your audience
Hey Gideon, Congrats on your new office – nice use of space. I’m wondering, what kind of teleprompter are you using? Thanks, Jamee
@jameelouise Hey Jamee – the one I have there is called PadPrompter – just google it. I’ve only tested it once, but may be using it some more this year…
@GideonShalwick Thanks Gideon, We will give it a try in the near future and let you know how it goes. We will give you credit for whatever we share.
Nice office!
I love your white board my one is quite small it gets full so fast, my bedroom is my office for now cant wait to get a real office
Always love your work Gideon!
thanks @MeatheadZone! I sometimes wish ALL the walls of my office was whiteboard – I just have SOOO many ideas to record all the time. Such a great thinking tool. I think there is an actual whiteboard paint that people sometimes use on their office walls. Sounds like a plan…
@TVUtah Great stuff!
I can’t afford all of that sophisticated equipment. I do have a mac and a flip video but it takes me forever to upload a video. That’s why I have to do like 3 at a time, often changing clothes. I struggle with lighting too
@GideonShalwick great thx – that’s a new one for me. I will have more use of a teleprompter this year so an shopping. I am also looking at PromptDog and telepromptermirror. Good to ‘see’ you again. Happy New Year!
Would email.. but rather give you some YouTube love..
Where did you get the awesome planner white board?
And what kind of microphone set up are we working with?
Hi Gideon,
Good video, can you tell me which video promtor you use for your videos (when you use one)? Is it an i-pad teleprompter? Thanks in advance.
Ashley
very nice.very clean office.your so right.your environment can make or break you..i live in a basement with clutter. def need to clean it up or get a small office like yours. any tips on how many subscribers/views/etc i need before i consider applying for partner and adsense?
Thank you so much for sharing your layout. Very helpful.
Great video Gideon! One question: Would you always use a softbox regardless of which one of the three “scenarios” you’re using in your office?
Gideon, as always, outstanding. Love that whiteboard! Thank you for sharing. Great setup.
Great office and setup. Love the light setup. Do you ever use a green screen and chroma key?
Hey Gideon,
Fantastic job on the office. I just leased one for myself and moved my assistant and I moved in over the weekend. Love the separate of the bookshelf and am definitely going to check into a teleprompter! Thanks for sharing
Oh wow! Nice layout man! Thats a BIG Whiteboard! LOL You know..I never thought about using a teleprompter..I just talk off the top of my head. I’ll definitely look into to for videos that will be on my blog.
Which tripod and what mounting gear do I need to the teleprompter?
@GideonShalwick Would you PLEASE do a video on it – “simple setup” sounds good to me, and I really like the out-of-focus bookshelf background.
Cool office and you are so lucky to get natural light coming in from outside with some greenery. I have the same setup as you, iMac, rode podcaster and camera equipment. Just a quick thing, do you do any green screen recordings? or is everything done in white?
AWESOME whiteboard! nice layout for rest of office & great idea to have multiple backgrounds
Your office is sweet Gideon. Truly a content factory ~ Very impressive. Curious to know what type of lens you are running with your 60D. I’ve got the same camera, for sound i use the G3 sennheiser, I’ve got a white sheet set up… as you said you used to have. Again, thnx for sharing, you make it look simple, doable, and inspire others to get it going on.
@GideonShalwick , congrats
@Reviyve you dont need expensive stuff to start off with – just build it up slowly as you go… that’s what I did
@Sweeney2066 ah thanks! The planner is simply some graph paper that the printer people “blew up” and then laminated so that I can use it as a whiteboard with lines on it. Only a few dollars. Pretty cool.
@Outsourcinglive
what are the equipment I need I like to record great vocal ?
@UniProAustralia Haven’t used one much, but the one I just got recently is the PadPrompter that works with the iPad – pretty cool in my tests. May be using it more this year.
@fromflab2fabdotcom Yeah definitely clean up a bit – declutter as you say :). As to the partner program, it seems to be a bit of a mystery. And it probably changes all the time too. But if you have say 5,000 followers, go ahead and apply…
@BatonRgeHousingRepts No probs!
@MrForsund for any light on my face, I would use a softbox yes. The only time I don’t use the softbox, is when I light up the background.
@Flea02Cruiser Yeah the whiteboard is my fav – it’s 3.6m long!
@sejackson45 I stopped using green screen and chroma key about 3 years ago cos it was too much hassle and overkill for online video. Best use for it in my view is for the weather channel. Otherwise it just seems a bit “try hard”, esp on youtube.
@OnlineIncomeLab great stuff – keep up posted on how your productivity levels increase with your new working area!
@bigmanshrinking1 thanks! Yeah the whiteboard is 3.6m long. Pretty big. So I LOVE it! I have not used a teleprompter much. The one you see in the video is only a couple of weeks old, so I have not really used it yet.
@OnlineIncomeLab I think just a normal tripod will work. I got the cheaper version of the PadPrompter where you don’t need that rail system thing. So, I just used one of my extra tripods for mounting the PadPrompter. Works well.
@Outsourcinglive Yeah the greenery outside is great with the natural light coming in. Seems like you’re something close to a clone of me Tyrone 😉
@accessloans yeah, having the different backgrounds just gives my videos a bit more variety while still recording in the same office
@TheMattyMiller I used two lenses for this recording. For the one where I am sitting down, I used a 50mm 1.8. And the other one is simply the one that came with the kit set.
Hey Gideon - love the vid. What are your top three favourite business books and why?
nice layout;-)
@TheFreeMindGuy At the moment… Influence by Dr Robert Cialdini, Breakthrough Advertising by Eugene Schwartz and Good To Great by Jim Collins. Perhaps I can make a video for each one, explaining why they are my top business books…
Curious about what video camera you use? Current and dream one? Thanks
My question is, where did you get the teleprompter? I have been looking all over the place for one, but have found none to date.
@GideonShalwick Thanks Gideon _ I like Cialdini too & found a couple of great summarising mindmaps for my ipad. I too love Good to Great but haven’t read Eugene Schwartz. I’d say my Top 3 are Peter Senge the 5th Discipline, Philip Kotler on Marketing Management (my uni lecturer sold this to us as the best marketing book in the world. The same one they use at Harvard) and Smarter Selling by Keith Dugdale / David Lambert. (Currently reading The Challenger Sale by Matthew Dixon / Brent Admason)
@mikehcg Google PadPrompter. The first result will be it. Geez… these PadPrompter guys should be sending me some commissions lol!
Many thanks, Gideon
Hi Gideon, Love your space! On my computer your speech is a little out of sync. Why would that be?
Is making videos your fulltime work or what do you work with?
Great setup, Gideon. I’ve also got the 27 inch iMac and the new Mac Book Air and they’re incredible! When you record a conversation on Skype, what software do you use to make the recording?
Professional workspaces do wonders for your productivity I had a real neat and tidy work space the beginning of last year, but in the last few months have had to make do with a temporary workspace which consists of a coffee table, the Mrs had eyes for my workspace/room so she can sit and watch the TV lol!
Fascinating video, your space is really sparse! In my own office/studio/shop there’s a whole lot more ‘stuff’, like paperwork, storage, stock etc. After seeing this video though I’m really thinking I need to make my personal work area / studio less cluttered and more function-driven. Great standing desk, I was about to implement one of those too!
@GideonShalwick I have the same camera, and same lenses 😉 A great setup. I mostly use it for Video Production for businesses. Here is some of my Work: Youtube. com/ TurningWinds – We did all their videos. A recent video: Youtube. com/ watch?v =DhMzUoI5oHs. I have no professional education in Video Production but thoroughly enjoy doing it as an addon to my Web Marketing business. I use an external Lapel Mic as well paired with a Tascam DR-100, great recorder.
Thank you very much!!!
The best video I´v ever seen about home office.
So many technical details.
Great
@GideonShalwick I meant to ask you if you used your built in Audio paired with a mic or a separate recorder as well? I never could get good audio on the camera paired with a lapel mic, there was always a constant noise. The Tascam does a smashing job. I don’t do any of the video editing either, I outsource all of it. That is the most tedious part IMO.
Great video. I am in the process of setting up my own production studio at my home. I am in the beginning stages and you have given some great tips on how how to use your space and different area where in where I can video. Looking forward to more. Thanks!
Hi Gideon, in that set up you are able to control the amount of natural daylight through the blinds, in the place where I am thinking of using, the felling is semi clear plastic, which has cloth (light cream) blocking the harsh light, how much of an issue is natural daylight, factoring I have two large light boxes to supplement the lighting? Matt
Wanted to share with you that thanks to your excellent videos and advice was have become a YouTube partner. I have created over 210 videos on weight loss and my views are growing everyday. Thanks and I want you to know that you are making a difference.
Awesome video. What other kind of video work do you do apart from YouTube videos?
Gideon,
Very Zen in your use of space.
Simple, clean, and very effective… Love it.
You know the old saying, “A Picture is worth a 1000 words” definitely applies in this case.
It appears that the distance from the camera to the subject is 6 feet or less.
True?
What is the closest that you get to your camera and still have a quality shot?
Thanks for sharing.

Loved this! Thanks so much for sharing your new office with us, Gideon. As someone who works out of her bedroom (and shares a desk with her husband) I am always envious of people who have their own space from which to do things. I’ll get there eventually though.
Well done on this sweet office Gideon. love the set up, you are using the right
camera canon 60D. Thank you for sharing your powerful information with us.
We always look forward to watching your video`s. Keep up the great work.
G- Great pad! Quick question regarding attaching transcripts. You have a link to download them for users…are you not concerned about any SEO value for any of your transcripts? My understand is that you’d have to have a field where entire transcript is sits for bots to ‘see’? Bots do not crawl those pdf links, do they? Thanks G!
Nice work Gideon. I am just putting an office together myself. Many great ideas here. Thanks!
Hi Gideon. Great video. I have bought myself a canon 60d and was wondering what lense you use for your other presentation videos? You mentioned the 50mm 1.8 lens in this video. Is this the lens you use for all the other videos? I am working with the lenses that came in the kit. And I think the video quality is good. I just wonder if I can still get a better quality with a different lens. What’s your thought? Thanks! Chris
Gideon! Your office looks great! I love it. At first, I was thinking “Why put the desk, bookshelf, etc there?” At the end, it all made sense. I think I will redo my office now and move some furniture around.
What is a good alternative for lighting to use? I know you are using the nice quality lighting for videos to shine against the wall and the ones located next to the cameras. Is there a “poor man’s” alternative for that? Thanks!
This is a great reminder of how important it is to setup a simple, clean looking environment to allow a variety of recording scenarios. I have been playing around with this and enjoying the creative ideas for improving my youtube recordings. Thanks again Gideon for the excellent demonstration.
Hi Gideon …fantastic office! I just set up a studio with green screen …do you like the white background better than greenscreen? I have a Kodak Zi8 with Audio Technica lav mic for quick & portable stuff and use a Canon 60D for better quality along with an Apex 400 studio mic connected via Tascam to my pc. I never get good audio on the A.T. tho and adding in a separate audio track & synchronizing to my video is always a bit of a pain …what do you suggest?
Gideon, the videos look great. I was wondering if you wear makeup during your shoots? I would think that you’d have to with all those bright lights. If you do, do you have any tips for guys who don’t normally wear makeup?
Good ideas .. useful and efficient .. my concerns would be the overall costs of your professional cameras, lighting and teleprompters … most starting out would find this extreme. On the other hand if you want to come across to your public as a professional than everyone should work towards a studio as yours. Thanks for the tour
Regards
Bruce Gilchrist
@GideonShalwick could you perhaps do a video in the future on using the teleprompter and various alternatives?
Would love a video dedicated to the use of your teleprompter. I look forward to all of your videos, Gideon. You’re a great teacher!
Curious to know Gideon why you don’t use something like EasyVideoPlayer? Why youtube?
What a great little setup you’ve got there! Standing desk eh? You’ll actually stand all day?
The sound and picture quality are superb! Thanks for sharing your stidio setup and equipment.
It is great to see how you set it up. So simple and effective . . . with THREE AREAs! Great design.
I just re-did my desk and made it a stand up desk. I bought some twenty dollar bookcases and popped a desktop on top to them. Perfect hieght and easy to use. I had made a difference in how I do my videos.
Hey Gideon, awesome video! I am in the midst of building my home office extension and was considering a standing desk also. Where abouts did you get your one from (looks ideal)? Also where can I find a teleprompter like yours?
Just a suggestion for the couch background, perhaps paint that section of the wall in chromakey green and then you can be in any location you like…just a thought
Keep up the great work!
Cheers
Josh
@joshuavdbroek
Your office is amazing! Thanks so much for sharing, you’ve given me so many ideas in setting up my workspace.
Good stuff buddy, hope you’re well!
gideon, great video my friend. i have an office about the same size and looking to unclutter it and make a dedicated video space too. i have nice lights. what are the dimension of your space including the over width and length as well as the sizes of your work and video area. i think my space is VERY similar to yours and your layout is great. thanks, david
Please! I would really like to learn more about your teleprompter. There are so many options on the site you recommended. What are you using? How exciting to have a new space to work in, and get things done without home interfering as it so often can do.
@johnenlima I’ve been using a lapel microphone like the Audiotechnica which costs a little less than the wireless mic. That will do the trick.
@GideonShalwick Almost… hehehe my video format is different now so I’m not going to be ur clone anymore. 😉
so jealous! well done gideon - would love to have one like that myself
Thank you for sharing your office set up, you were one of the best at FWF3!
Gideon, it’s been awhile since I visited.(I learned how to make a website from you and Yaro a couple of years ago.) Great to see you’re still at it. I’m trying to move into video teaching and was wondering if you have any tutorials or materials about how to make videos using teaching software. You know the vids where the instructor’s voice is heard while the audience sees visual aids (words, equations, notes, etc.) I enjoy your teaching style and thoroughness; thought you could point me in the right direction. Thanks.
Thanks for the tour of your office and all your swanky equipment. Maybe next time you could do a video of your sports car and hot girlfriend!
Nice I really wish I could expand out of my room and have a studio like that. Do you really edit your videos standing up? What if your at the computer for several hours? What is the benefit of this?
@mikehcg indymogul recently did a DIY telepromter for 35 bucks using an ipad. Might be helpful a youtube search for it should do the trick.

Thanks for the tour. Makes it look doable. I’ve been experimenting with my own space, and from what I can tell the light kit is the most critical part of the setup.

That’s a very nice setup you’ve built there. Ron Goodwave would approve. 😉
love the set up. gives me something to aim for. A bit green around the ears still with my web business and the tech side, but getting there!
@jtunkelo lol – oh that brings back some fun memories! When is our next episode again?
Looking spiffy, Gideon. I love my office (very white also!). I love the IDEA of a white board…had one – and admired it’s whiteness on a daily basis – but never used it. Have passed it on to someone who does.
Just curious… are you using a 50mm lens?
A teleprompter is an insane good idea. Thanks much.
thankyou gideon, i so love how sharing and encouraging you are….
Thanks for this. I love the idea of the office right next to a studio that is always ready. I am trying a very modified version of this setup.
Why did you remove the green screen paint on your walls from your last office tour video? Really curious. Also, what is the thinking behind a “standing” desk? Thanks so much for your videos!
Amazing and inspiring video… thanks
GET A HAIRCUT! LOL Gideon, thank you so much for the awesome information you give away for free! Because of your videos, I feel connected to you and your business as well as I feel as though I have made a genuine friend. Bless you and your family!
Hi Gideon!
We sent you a message through youtube, not sure if you got it or not. Just wondering if you are free at all to have a chat! We are most likely going to be working with one of your past business partners Jayjay from freemagiclive. It would be great to catch up sometime!
Thanks mate!
Vinh
Oh and I Love the office mate! looks great! We need one of our own soon too!
So your mentioned Video Blogging on another video. What is this Gideon? Do you blog on Youtube or your own website using Youtube video. I guess my question is – what social media tools in Youtube are the best to use?
@dentalholiday ok I have added it to the list…
@BrookeDavies96 it may be that your internet connection is a bit slow? Or perhaps your computer graphics card may not be advanced enough? That’s the only things I can think of…
@TheSimonTech my full time work is running an online educational business, of which creating videos is perhaps 10% of my effort.
@cruisinaltitude Hey man! Great to see you on here! Have you considered just replacing all your video gear with an iphone? As for lighting… have you looked at some LED options? They are nice and light and can be battery operated. The hardware store may even have something for you…
@standubin Call Recorder - sweet little program!

@WayneTully1 Ah I hope you can get back to what you had Wayne! As you know, it makes a big difference!
@simoncrabb I like keeping it clean – helps me remove the cluttered feeling from my mind so that I can focus.

@maximszeged wow thanks! what a compliment!
@KarlasTV1 Cool stuff – do share your space with us once you’ve got it setup!
@loganeski wow fantastic news that you become partner! Keep up the great
work – it just gets better from here… the best is yet to come!
@DivorcedWomenDating Hey Suzy – it really depends a lot on the kind of camera you are using and also the lens. For example, the lens that I am using now allows me to shoot in rather confined spaces. Currently the distance between the subject and camera is about 2 meters (which I think is about 6 feet yes).
@carmensognonvi I worked from my bedroom for quite some time, then upgraded to the living room… then I had my own home office (another bedroom), and now I have my very own real office – 5 years in the making lol!

@MJElectronics no probs! thanks for your great support!
@albi6822 Cool bananas! Share your space with us once you’ve got it set ok?
@baliko2007 for the shots where I get the nice depth of field (blurry background), I use the 50mm 1.8 lens. For the white background shoots, I just use one of the kit lenses…
@fernandolawl check one of the video replies on my white background video here: watch?v=rZP0qKVJOlc – it shows a very affordable solution for lighting.

@shanejohnston2 yeah I just use white screen now. Green screen is overkill for the web in my opinion – best kept for the TV weather man! For sound, I use a Sony UTX-B2 system now. It’s a bit pricey, but does a fantastic job and I have never regretted getting one.

@andrewbshell nope – have never worn makup on my youtube vids, except for one maybe I think, where I had a big ugly pimple on my nose! (blush). For youtube vids, I reckon makeup for guys is totally unnecessary… just be natural!
@MasterMindClub Hey Bruce – there are many lower cost options – eg see one of the video responses on one of my videos here: watch?v=rZP0qKVJOlc

@JoshRimer yup – I stand up for quite a big part of the day. Often I would just go to the coffee shop though and go and do some typing there…

@lylizm Ah very creative solution for your standup desk! It’s amazing how hard it is to find good stand up desks in the shops – almost impossible! Have you found a nice change in productivity as a result yet?

@JoshuaVDBroek desk from Ikea (had to mix and match a few things). still not ideal, but ok for now. Teleprompter – google pad prompter
@MommyReporter great stuff! please do share your solution also once you’ve got it all setup!
@cseprep I think it’s around 3m by 6m. Not huge, but big enough for just me and my little studio…
[..YouTube..] @readlucysrainbow ok – sounds like a lot of people want to learn more about the teleprompter – I may just create a video on that then

@thestev34 I hardly do any more editing for my videos – that’s for my video editor :). I dont literally stand up for ALL day long. But standing up while working means I dont waste any time in front of the computer, cos my legs get tired otherwise lol! Some reports have recently come out suggesting it’s better for your health to stand up while working. But check with your physio therapist perhaps?

@GideonShalwick thanks so much for the reply. I love your videos, keep up the good work. I wish I had enough space to have a cool studio like yours! I know about finding a good stand up desk and most of them are really expensive and clunky looking. I have found that my productivity has increased. I feel like I am getting more things done standing up. When I sit too much, it sometimes get in a lazy type mood, but standing keeps my energy up.
[..YouTube..] @GideonShalwick the iPhones are so expensive on this side of the world and I’d have to change my provider, which I can’t really do at the moment. I’ll check out the lights as I really need to get some lights that can fit in my bag easily and don’t let the airport security guys go crazy. I primarily use the iPad now; I just had all that stuff over time. I’ll get looking for portable lights.

[..YouTube..] @GideonShalwick I tried Call Recorder about 8 months ago and for whatever reason, it just didn’t work well. I tried it out again a few days ago and it is hot! Superb audio quality and the video was almost unreal, how clean and clear it was. Still working out how to record a screen share — the feature to screen share a window or selection doesn’t appear to be available any longer thru Skype — but otherwise, a phenomenal method of recording interviews.

Hey, Gideon! Nice video tour of your new office. I’m in the middle of setting up a studio very similar to yours. How much wattage do I require from each of the two lights flooding the white wall to get a good “Apple effect” like yours? I’ve used a green screen in the past for the effect, but it just seems like such a big hassle.
[..YouTube..] Hi Gideon, just came across your videos and website. What grabbed me was Paul Colligan giving you a referral,I also follow Tyrone Shum. I am a MSMM member myself and have just completed building my own studio a week ago. Purchased Sony Vegas 2 weeks ago and waiting for my Blue Yetti Pro to be delivered. Your videos’ and report are quality, hope I can get my stuff looking as good as yours
All the best from a fellow South African..Ivan
[..YouTube..] Such a helpful video Gideon, thank you. What make are the lights and the teleprompter? Also can you recommend where to get a virtual backdrop for videos? Hope you can help. Good luck with everything.
Has anyone noticed the whiteboard at 3:26 . It says sex!
Great office! What do you do for lighting on your 3rd scenario, in front of the bookcases?
Thank you, Gideon
Few questions:
(1) We just purchased the canon 60d, wondering about the settings you recommend? Also what’s best resource or book on it?
(2) Trying to find the telepromoter, does it work with iPad?
(3) We’re looking for someone to do a video opening like you have and editing for our 3-5 minute videos; you mentioned putting together a service or having someone who can help?
Happy to book a quarter hour of consulting if its not something you can share publicly.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Ann
Hey Ann
Sorry for the late reply!
The team at http://www.Splasheo.com can certainly help you with getting some intro’s done. They’ve done all my intro’s so far. Great team!

[..YouTube..] I came and saw how to make a good video on youtube. The ni subscribed and it is so cool to see that you, are growing as a youtuber.Keep doing what you do, you are awesome.
Great Video. Thanks for sharing you office space with us.
I am inspired!
just what i was looking for. you are the man!
Why no “green screen”? Wouldn’t that “expand your horizons”, so to speak?
Gideon, what sort of sound setup do you have when shooting these videos with your 60D?
You’ve been a lot of help Gideon, in helping me get my own office / studio into proper shape. You’ve been an enormous help in helping me pick out the equipment I need. Soon, I will be a full time you tube video blogger too! Thanks for all the help, and continue the great work you’re doing in helping people like me, to become more skilled at creating and placing videos on the internet.
Thanks Gideon, just set up a stand up work station, massive jump in productivity
Denis
I am envious of your space. If I can kid a child to leave home I have designs on his room!

Great video Gideon! I’ve been in video production for 5 years and having my own small office/production space has always been challenging. Just getting involved with YouTube now. I like the “standing” desk and the way you divided your space. Forgive me if this is repetitious but I couldn’t find the info… what type of LED lights are you using? I’m in the market for a basic kit. Thank you!
what kind of mic do you use for your webinars
what kind of mic do you use for your webinars
Rode Podcaster usb microphone for my webinars.
thanks! do you have a video on how to add the fly in words and images as you record with the white background?
Great video, gives me allot of ideas…
Slick office/studio space Gideon. What lapel mic would you recommend? Also, are fluorescent floodlights a good alternative to bigger lights, for lighting background, etc? cheers
At about 3:30, did you notice the word “sex” on the left side of the white-board?
Nice office.. good job..
hey you
Yeah you
I make youtube videos on gaming funny how tos and reviews if you sub to me i will sub back also i will give a shout out to you if you ask and also tell my cousin bossbross437 and xpertstriker to give you a shout out and check your channel out and suscribe
Gideon
I have a problem with remembering what I want to talk about, you mentioned the teleprompter where did you get yours?
Gideon, I really like how you’ve taken such a modest space and created so many interesting staging options. Quick question, where do you set your iPad or MacBook when you connect to your teleprompter? I have a teleprompter by Prompter People and its always an issue for me trying to find somewhere to connect my MacBook Pro that’s out of the way so as not be in danger of being knocked over. I also use an external HDMI monitor to get a clear view of the recording. Appreciate your thoughts.
Very Nice – You’ve really thought it out – thanks for sharing your new studio setup. Gave me some nice ideas for my own – even though it’s much smaller. For my tele-prompter I have a Toshiba Laptop which can be turned into a tablet by flipping the screen over on the back of the keyboard.
Hello Gideon!
Nice Video! Can you tell me the dimensions of this room? I assume it is about 8×5 meters?
Best wishes,
Stefan
I think it’s about 3×9 meters…
I think its kinda cool to watch how Video Marketing has changed over the years. I am Video Marketing Expert in Houston TX and it’s nice to see good content being shared that helps local businesses succeed online.
I really love this. I have been surfing the YouTube, google and even the eBay for the past three nights, using all sorts of phrases and tag words to find exactly this information. It’s great to bump into this. I think we are in for the long haul because it’s so much what I want any how I want it that it feels that you nicked my idea! I love the set up and your general sense of quality. Good Site!
What lens,, f-stop and recording in 1080 (60i, 60p or 24p ) ? do you use in your Canon D60 videos.
Excellent!
Area Manager, ex-Toastermasters; good way for voice clarity, no umms, etc. One more good suggestions: more light, by putting ‘chrome’-foiled plastic on the ceiling above the talent. Bounces light from above, as needed/ directed. Also: hooks on ceiling (microphones, LED lighting, fabric, & hooks on walls for adding rails, ‘curtains’. Curtains for light-reflectors, color-changes, sound-deadening (if needed). Ex-audio, hardcopy industries; now moving to A-V areas e.g. Youtube.
Great work you do, really. Thanks.
Thnx Steve. I am actually currently starting a audio video production and workshop studio. So for me to do my mixing, editing and workshops, but also to facilitate. What would your ideal studio look like? Is it wise to build in the room a seemless cave ? This video was really inspiring, nice multifunctional setup.
Gideon can you tell me how much your white board was and a link to where I could buy one in that size. That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Thanks so much man. 😀
I love your new office-studio! I’m gonna take it as reference! 😀 thanks!!!
NICE!
I love the standing desk, Gideon.
I’ve been using one for about a year. Much better for your back and far more productive.
Thanks for your great stuff!
Thanks for this informative video. I’m currently putting together a dedicated space in my home to make my YouTube videos and this was very helpful. Seeing your lighting setup was particularly of interest to me. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Great video
Please I need your help I want to setup my video studio and I don’t know where to start from what can I do thank you
SUB TO MY CHANNEL AND I WILL SUB TO YOU 100 % WITH MY 2 OTHER CHANNELS….
And what kind of lapel mic you are using for videos? Or is there any other mic too. Please suggest. Thanks.
what kind of mic by you computer as well as the set up .. Yeti with that arm and the black round thing that makes it sound clearer it looks like lol maybe put video or affiliate links of everything you use. thanks
He uses a rode podcaster mic mounter on a shock mount which is then on rode PSA 1 mic arm.
What microphone do you reccomend when making youtube videos from your Canon 60D? Do you think an external recorder is better, or a mic that plugs into the rec input on the Camera?
In order to record a good video, I would need a total of 4 lights? Just want to make sure before I buy them
How about hair light to make the three point light complete?
3:26, what is that on your whiteboard?
Heyyyyy ,,,,, i love your videos body ,,, you always simplify things in a professional way ,,, you make great videos
I am in China now ,,, trying to make some videos about my business
Thank you for sharing this video! It’s really cool!
You make some sweet videos Gideon.
Why Do You Stand To Work???
Why Don’t You Work at Home?
the teleprompter exactly which brand and reference?
Thanks GS for the inspiration. I work with inmates and looking to start a TV Channel that would be exclusive viewed by our population. I want our in house content to look very pro. and if I can come across half as good as what your doing I will be pleased. You have got me very interested in the 60d and the infinite white set up.
Your videos look great. What lights & wireless Mic do you use?
What kind of lights are those?
great place office man, and you teach us a valuable information, i like you honesty, keep it up and good luck
Hi Gideon, Great videos. I’d like to know what teleprompter you use?
I dont use one
But I do use outlines mostly. Often it’s just some scribbles on a piece of paper.
Great vid! Thanks for sharing.
Where did you get your standing desk?
I’ve looked around and can’t find any that are less than $200-$300.
Thanks!
